Reinvest-lah for long term sake and let the magic of compounding work for you. There is no cheaper way to grow your money than this. If given the choice, I would gladly give up my cash payment portion for it.

Since you have 3000 share, based on dividend 24 sen, your cash payout is RM 720. But if opt for share reinvest at RM 7.50, the 20sen out of 24 sen is applicable to share reinvest and other 4 sen is still cash payment to avoid odd lot. Therefore, you will get cash RM 120 and 80 new Maybank share, resultant, your total holding in Maybank will be 3080 share and cash RM 120.

As the reinvest share is new issue share by Maybank, there is no transaction cost involve, therefore it's worth to entitle albeit just 80 new share but you carry it at merely RM 7.50 cost, it can at least average down a little on your holding cost if your exititng 3000 share bought at higher than these share reinvest discount RM7.50.

As for my preference, I will opt certain portion of my current stake for share reinvest at discount 7.50, and will take profit for remaining if share surge higher. This is solely due to my investment strategy to actively trade share instead of holding for longer term. Of course, again, this is free market, the decision is on your own dicretion.

Thanks hng33 for your clear explanation.

May I know how do we apply for this plan? Fill the reinvestment plan form and submit to our remiscer? Or just deal directly with Maybank?

You just ask your investment bank to fill up form for you, it's the service you deserve from them.

Think you need to pay RM10.00 stamp duty if you exercise the share reinvestment plan.

Share reinvestment price last round was RM8-70 compared to this round at RM7-50, see how important the average transacted price in this past few market days.

The impact of press down the price will lower down the share holding cost.

Before 12 Oct, the big boss will sweep back all the disposed portion and might holding more if the price is at attractive level.

Maybank's DRP of RM7.50 at 9.5% discount

KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank Investment Bank Research said Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) 11th dividend reinvestment plan (DRP) of RM7.50 is a 9.5% discount to the ex-dividend volume weighted average market price (VWAMP) of RM8.29.

The ex-date for the DRP has been determined to be Oct 8 and the entitlement date is Oct 12.

“The discount of 9.5% compares against the average discount of 5.3% over the past five DRPs and is the third largest since Maybank started its DRP programme,” Maybank Research said on Monday.

The research house said assuming a reinvestment rate of 85%, which was the average over the past five DRPs, it estimates a 2.1% FY15 earnings per share dilution from this interim DPS, taking the full year dilution to about 4%, in line with the historical average.

“With a reinvestment rate of 85%, the group’s fully loaded CET1 ratio would be about 10.96% after this DRP, and 9.93% at the bank level. Separately, Maybank’s foreign shareholding stood at 19.33% on Sept 18, down 3.2 percentage points year-to-date. This compares against a peak of 25.99% in May 2013 and a trough of 10.29% in April 2009,” it added.

Maybank is down 3 sen at RM8.38 in late Monday morning trade.

DRP is some what like rights issue with a small discount.
Again DRP give rise to odd lots, and exert pressure on the existing share price just like rights issue.

Also have to take note how do those big share holders react when they participate in DRP.
You may not want to sell, but others may think differently.
