Banking industry had a good run, due to bnm limiting banking license to sepuluh local bank, now competition will come in the form of digital banking, industry is ripe for shake up and disruption also, imho buy and hold may not be the right choice for coming decade.

Digital banking is online banking to reach urban & esp. rural, with too few physical customers. No shake up & disruption as banks alrdy providing digital banking svcs for a few yrs now. An evolution & not revolution process.
For newcomers, it is a new mkt & indy to tap into. Newcomers cannot challenge existing banks as they have added advantage of NATIONWIDE branches, experience, knowledge, TRUST & financial muscle power. In USA, digital banking is unable to replace banks.

It is an extension and expansion as well as a change to the physical on-site way of providing & receiving banking svcs. Banks alrdy gearing up for digital banking with cashless contactless card, mobile phone, online svcs.
By the time, newcomers start off the line offering svcs by 2025, existing banks would have finished the race.

Most stks will continue falling for short term before a strong rebound & recovery. PBB will fall but not much as it is probably the strongest bank in Msia. Only thing is bank sector prices will not move up much in comparison to other sectors. A trade-off for save, secure & sound is slow moving up price. In stk mkt, high risk, high gain.

I agree existing banks are capable of ramping up their digitalization, but think of it this way. 10 license vs let's say 15 licenses now, more players more competition.

Less physical presence and assets? I think of it as an advantage in fact. Check out Robinhood stock trading app. Revolutionary. You don't need physical presence for that. We'll see when we reach that stage in banking because when you're small you're hungry and innovative.

Maxsuper pbb strong but slow - snail-like stk, no choice as a bank. Also epf trading everyday even for 2-3 cents. So difficult for investors, if cannot stand change counter. If can wait will benefit but cannot compare with non-bank PBB no crazy up-down gyrations. Strong. Can sleep peacefully.
