Tocotrienol was manufactured by Carotech, a subsidiary of Hovid. Carotech's tocotrienols was derived from palm oil through a patented process. I was a big believer of the potentials of tocotrienols, and had consumed TocovidSuprabio myself as I'm a heart patient.
I also invested in Carotech. But Carotech has gone into receivership due to too high gearing, and also because Bursa rejected the Rescue Plan put up by some White Knights, even though the banks were willing to take a haircut on their loans to Carotech.
What has actually happened to Carotech? It had a spanking new factory, which was supposed to increase the production of Bio-Diesel, palm oil derived Vitamin E, tocotrienols, etc many times over.
Does anyone know the final outcome of Carotech?
Hovid used to own about 70% shares in Carotech. It believed in the huge potential of Carotech’s products I suppose. But when Carotech’s business went awry after the sub-prime crash in the US in 2008, it started to divest its shares in Carotech by giving “dividends in specie” to Hovid shareholders. It may have been a right move for Hovid, but ordinary investors would have held almost worthless shares of Carotech. Yes, Hovid would have suffered losses too, but its exposure to Carotech’s losses was very much reduced through that exercise.
Since then, there had been no communication from either Hovid or Carotech. Hovid seems to have washed its hands completely of Carotech. 24/09/2014 22:50
I'm still a believer of tocovidsuprabio's tocotrienols. But I've stopped consuming them because they are very expensive - a 200mg twin promotional pack of 60 capsules sells for RM325.00 (after discount).
Carotech has been delisted. But my Carotech shares are still registered with the Bursa's CDS.
There has been a total news blackout on Carotech. The Board of Directors of Hovid owe a duty to all shareholders of Carotech to come out with a statement to explain what was the final outcome of Carotech.
If you read the 2013 audited financial statements, Hovid still hold around 18% of carotech which is fully impaired (classified as other investment). David Ho is estimated still hold 20% of Carotech with Tabung Haji Holding 9%. assume no changes since 2012. If you wish to check the latest Directors' shareholding, you can check at SSM website.
Based on 2013 related parties transactions, there are still some transaction between Hovid and carotech like purchases and sales.
Carotech and Hovid future largely depend on the success of tocotrienols. The shares of Carotech may have no market value now. However, if tocotrienols can break through US market it will be another story for Carotech and Hovid.
I hope the price will not move too fast for me to collect enough shares. As long term investor dont expect to get fast return. Drop just because ppl not confident enough. Dont too concern on the little movement on the share price. For me so long the value of the company is significantly greater than the current share price. i buy slowly buy in and wait it to explode. Life is not all about shares. Enjoy your life with family, work and friends.
"Who own the rights to tocotrienols? Is it Hovid or Carotech?" Ans: Nobody. But the brand name "Tocovid" which has the patented absorption ingredient "Suprabio" is owned by Hovid which sources the raw materials from Carotech which sparked a rumour to be circulated that it wants to hive off that part of Carotech only.
This book is the result of the author's many years of experience and observation throughout his 26 years in the stockbroking industry. It was written for general public to learn to invest based on facts and not on fantasies or hearsay....
