The last 3 qtrs, the qtrly EPS showed a downtrending pattern.
The 1H of 2023, TSH delivered EPS of 2.9 sen per share.
Annualising this to project its EPS for this whole year of 2023 = 2 x 2.9 sen = 5.8 sen per share.
Its NTA is RM 1.513 per share.
Thus, its ROE = 5.8 / 151.3 = 3.83%.

I usually like for companies with ROE of 15% or more.

In any case, a company with an ROE of 3.83% and NTA of RM 1.513 per share, what is its fair value in these various scenarios:

1. when you seek returns = to risk free treasury bond rate of 5%?
2. when you seek returns = 10% per year?
3. when you seek returns = 15% per year?

Does calvintaneng's irrational price of RM 4.00 make much sense? How does he justify this?

Do you know why some businesses trade below their NTA values and some businesses trade a premium above their NTA values?

>>>>

The average long term cost of funds is about 6% to 8%. You should at least look for companies with ROEs that are reasonable. ROE gives us an idea how well the managers are utilising the assets of the company in generating profits.

When the balance sun of Rm273 million comes in TSH will report a profit of 20 sen & then too late to buy TSH cheap

Just like after Bplant reported 19 sen profit from Kulai Young land sold & price jumped

https://www.bursamalaysia.com/market_information/announcements/company_announcement/announcement_details?ann_id=3260879

Better buy Tsh now while so cheap

Once people see the turnaround figures they will have to pay a premium

BIG PROBLEM WITH 3iii IS HE "CANNOT SEE" so missed all of them

Crude palm oil (CPO) prices are expected to climb by at least US$100 within the next four to six months, according to ISTA Mielke GmbH (Oil World) executive director Thomas Mielke.

The rise in CPO prices, according to him, is driven by a combination of factors, including developments related to Indian crop production, Black Sea exports and weather conditions in South America, which could affect the production of competing vegetable oils, and in turn increase demand for palm oil.

“The threat of El Nino will cause dryness to the oil palms in Southeast Asia. If we get a strong El-Nino effect, we have to revise downward our [palm oil] production estimate and this would create more bullish prices,” Mielke said at the UOB Kay Hian-Bursa Malaysia Derivatives joint event.

“[However], there are many uncertainties which complicate price forecasting. Palm oil moved largely sideways of late. At around US$860 per tonne, they are currently undervalued,” he added.

Mielke pointed out that palm oil production has already been below historical trend since 2019 and average yields have declined alarmingly. This is due to challenges such as a lack of replantings in recent years with an estimated 30% of oil palms in Malaysia being 19 years old or older, a slowdown in new plantings that limits production growth, a shortage of skilled labour and management issues.

“Annual average growth in palm oil production is likely to slow to only 1.8 million tonnes or probably less in the 10 years to 2030. This compares with the average annual growth of 2.9 million tonnes in the 10 years to 2020. This is a loss of 1.1 million tonnes.

“Despite the slowing down of growth, palm oil is still dominating the global market of oils or fats, with a production share of 32% and it accounts for even 53% of world exports, although it [is] produced from only 6% of the area,” he added.

WHEN alot of plantation company cannot replant but TSH is busy now doing major replanting after receiving bumper cash.
TsH will reap the big reward when the big shortage comes .

TSH’s 1HFY23 results disappointed on higher cost and weak CPO prices. Its 1HFY23 core net profit plunged 85% due to weaker CPO price and FFB output, coupled with losses from a refining JV with Wilmar. We cut our FY23-24F net profit forecasts by 50-41%, reduce our TP by 9% to RM1.00 (from RM1.10) but maintain our MARKET PERFORM call.

In a few yrs time, big shortages is coming due to failure to replant.
Why there is no replant because cpo price is too low to attract replant.

Its 1HFY23 core net profit of RM20.9m disappointed at only 18% and 16% of our full-year forecast and the full-year consensus estimate, respectively. The variance against our forecast came largely from weaker-than-expected CPO price realised and FFB output.

Indonesia’s export levy and duties continued to dampen net CPO prices attributable to TSH, resulting in 2QFY23 realised CPO of only RM3,493 per MT (-2% QoQ, -31% YoY).

Its 1HFY23 net profit also included a disposal gain of RM27.6m which stemmed from the agreed disposal of 13,898 Ha land (only 28% planted) in NE Kalimantan for RM731m cash in June 2022. RM429m worth of lands was transferred before FY22 ended, with a realised gain of RM311m then. In Jan 2023, a small parcel (575 Ha) was transferred resulting in a gain in 1QFY23.

The sales of the remaining pieces of land (along with divestment gain of RM120m-RM140m) is now likely to be in 2024 as both parties agreed to extend the agreement till mid-2024.

At price of RM 1.00 per share:

Market capitalisation of TSH is RM 1.375 billion.
Enterprise value of TSH is RM 1.785 billion.

Yes, it generated one off gains from disposal of land and estates. The cash in flow reduces its debts significantly.

80% of TSH revenues come from its plantation sector. The other segment contributes about 20% of its revenues but the earnings here are more volatile.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA) is set to hold its first ever National Palm Oil Conference 2023 next month, for stakeholders to discuss crucial issues and emerging trends in the palm oil sector.

The issues include the pressing need for a comprehensive review of the windfall profit levy's price threshold and levy rate, and oil palm replanting, it said in a statement on Saturday.

MPOA said the existing levy disproportionately burdens the palm oil industry, particularly in the face of escalated production costs at present.

Always look at its normalised or core earnings.

Standard and Poor’s latest version of the measurement of core earnings excludes any gains related to pension activities, net revenues from the sale of assets, impairment of goodwill charges, prior-year charge and provision reversals, and settlements related to litigation. Our measurement further excludes fair value gain or loss on capital assets as well as unrealized foreign exchange gain or loss. Expenses related to employee stock option grants, pensions, restructuring of present operations or any merger and acquisition costs, R&D purchases, write-downs of depreciable or amortizable operating assets, realized forex gain or loss and realized gains/losses from hedging activities are all included in (i.e. not subtracted from) the core earnings.

Cost stayed high in 1HFY23. Its 2QFY23 CPO price was flattish QoQ while FFB output improved 11% QoQ to 0.222m MT (-7% YoY) but plantation earnings dipped 34% compared to the first quarter, an indication of the cost pressures in 2QFY23 and 1HFY23 compared to the operating environment just a year earlier.

Earnings should bottom out in FY23. CPO prices in 2023 have softened due to recovering supply but rising demand and the threat of El Nino, which is looking likely in 2HFY23, should provide some firmness in CPO prices moving ahead. We are revising up our average CPO price from RM3,700 per MT back to RM3,800 per MT in general. However, as TSH’s harvest is mostly in Indonesia, a lower CPO price of RM3,600-RM3,700 is now expected over FY23-24. Rising costs have also tightened margins since mid-2022 but this could be plateauing on softer fertiliser and fuel costs with higher FFB yields tempering wage inflation moving into FY24, hence the recovery in earnings.

Kenanga Research

Posted by Integrity. Intelligent. Industrious. 3iii (iiinvestsmart)$€£¥ > 2023-09-13 07:53 | Report Abuse

Long-term expansion: Prior to FY22, its high borrowings slowed the planting for up of 20k ha the group already owned. Strong FY22 operating cash flows, part disposal of the NE Kalimantan land (RM429m) and RM258m from the two matured Sabah estates divesture have pared net debt from RM816m at the end of FY21 to RM131m (7% net gearing) as of 31 March 2023. New planting should start by early to mid-2024.

Capex will increase in 2024.

Posted by Integrity. Intelligent. Industrious. 3iii (iiinvestsmart)$€£¥ > 2023-09-13 07:54 | Report Abuse

Forecasts. We cut our FY23-24F net profit forecasts by 50-41%.

Correspondingly, we reduce our TP by 9% to RM1.00 (from RM1.10) based on 11x FY24F PER (at a discount to integrated PER of 15x due to the group’s smaller market capitalisation) and P/NTA of 0.7x (lower than sector range of 1x-2x due to its Indonesian landbank). There is no adjustment to our TP based on ESG given a 3-star rating as appraised by us (see Page 3).

However, we maintain our MARKET PERFORM rating as much negative news has probably been factored into its current share price. TSH’s long-term upstream expansion plans is encouraging but it needs to first overcome the near-term headwinds.

Risks to our call include: (i) weather impact on edible oil supply, (ii) unfavourable commodity prices fluctuations, and (iii) cost inflation.

Hahaha

Forecast can be right or wrong or delayed

This is normal

We have forecasted Bplant, Thplant and Jtiasa to reach Rm1.50

now prices went up and down but finally Bplant crossed Rm1.50

For Jtiasa it is now a fast growth stock and price will move up higher

Thplant is asset play and one day will see similar move like Bplant when Value is unlocked

As for Tsh the Rm273 millions cash from land sold will be reported as 20 sen profit when cash is received

Overweight in Mid cap and small cap

(Big caps only good during bad times)
,(In bad times buy good defensive palm oil stocks but in good times you must go for unloved lower liners and midcap)

These are the top picks

Taann
Sop
Simeplant
Tsh resources (a must have)
Fgv
Thplant (best because cheap )
Bplant
Jtiasa

Others will come later

Above are low hanging fruits and all got over 200,000 acres of palm oil bigger than Singapore landmass of 180,000 acres

Typical behaviour of calvin over the years.

Someone who promoted many stocks is effectively promoting none at all.

Not all plantation stocks are doing well. Many stocks are cheap for very good reason that they are lousy companies. Prices of many stocks in Bursa are volatile, going up 50% or more and dropping the equivalent 1/3 or more in a year. Do not be fooled by their price volatilities for your ingenuity.

Calvintaneng promoted plantations in Feb 2022. The CPO price had risen by then and Plantation stock prices had climbed by then. He continued to be bullish and promoted strong buys even in April 2022 and May 2022. The prices of many Plantation stocks peaked in April and May 2022. Very soon these Plantation stock prices declinened precipitously to even lower than their initial previous low prices.

Again, Calvin's promotions through his numerous articles and posts did not show his cleverness, just his enthusiasm. Someone commented his surprise he was going to be a speaker in a forum on how to invest in Plantation stocks due to his expert knowledge in Plantation counters!
I usually keep my investing a lonely journey, investing quietly on my own. Have only participated in discussing GSB and NETX in any depth.

Good morning. Stay focus on issues.

Sarawak Plantation saw its 9MFY21 core earnings doubling to RM62.4m, bolstered by stronger CPO prices despite weaker FFB production.

The results were slightly below our full-year expectations but it was in line with the consensus expectation, making up 69% and 78%, respectively. Nevertheless, we believe there will be a catch-up in the final quarter as management expects to record higher average CPO prices. No dividend was declared for the quarter.

Maintain Outperform call with an unchanged TP of RM3.88 based on 15x FY22 EPS.

If CPO stays strong above $5,000 for most of the month in 2022, EPS purely from operations may reach 20sen. At PE 15x , it worth $3.00 ?
Asset monetisation gain in pocket from Kulai land sales is 24 sen . Ongoing plan to sell under performing Sarawak estate? Further monetisation of development freehold land in WM ? As a result, handsome special dividend payout like before ?
All this may drive Bplant share price very high provided Malaysian stock market sentiment remain bullish

Fgv was Rm1.06

now Felda offers to take it private at Rm1.30 but see

Fgv is Rm1.39

plus we got 8 sen and 3 sen dividend making it 11 sen dividend

almost 25% gain

not bad at all

Jtiasa was 63 sen and now 80 sen or up 27%

plus we got these dividends from Jtiasa
2.8 sen
1.5 sen
1.7 sen
total dividend 6 sen

Jtiasa will be giving even more dividend as debt dropped from Rm1.4 billion to only Rm93 mil and very soon debt free cash rich

better don't miss Jtiasa (Giant Treasure )

Philip is an investor that I enjoy studying and learning from.

SSLee is interesting too. He has sacrificed so much for his family and parents. That is most admirable.

Stockraider is a good contributor too. His posts were at times quite thought provoking, with some substance too.
