from the report.. it is mainly due to reduced in advertising revenue... and during MCO period.... the quarter report is ended 30 April 2020... i believe the worse quarter is over for Astro.
Memorylane, the number of subscribers should have spiked up significantly like for Netflix - that was the basis of my argument. Adverts also should have gone up in anticipation of increase in subscribers. Is it possible new habits and newer technologies are disrupting Astro? Just a thought.
because astro giving free premium channel during the whole MCO without condition attached... yes, netflix is a challenger, but Astro and Netflix subscriber are different category of people... some people prefer live TV, localized news, sports... and some prefer video on demand... both Netflix and Astro exists long time dy, people who like netflix will most probably continue with netflix, and Astro vice versa...
astro used to be a dividend counter.. for this quarter they were reduced from 2 cents to 1 cent .. which is 50% reduced.. no more attractive.. price now already 0.915.. still no pick up yet...
@alexsee under current conditions make sense for dividend to have reduced. even if they only pay 4cents dividend, thats around 4.3%. with all the interest cuts, the yield is not bad. at the same time there is some room for capital growth.
Your 55 cents may very well come thru in a not too distant future as it's no longer a high dividend yield play anymore coupled with it's bleak outlook, i.e. dwindling viewer subscription and advertising revenues.
1 cent is only quarterly result. If yearly dividend is 4 to 5 cent, at 90 ct...dividend yield per year is about 4.5 to 5%, much than bank FD. Upside gain when it moves up to rm1 is always there
If want to keep for dividend buy Maybank la. What for buy this? MCO period people all stay at home results also drop. Means people nowadays don’t really use Astro. It’s for uncle aunties. Younger generations watch movie online or through Netflix
Keep watching Astro and wait fr ads, if at all adverts makes a comeback. New norm is online ads. Advertising agencies already begging govt. for life support. Be carefull!!!!!!!
