By looking at the history chart. It had being standing at the highest point of RM 3 plus if not mistaken and it had being slightly sliding downward yearly.
In term of growth. I don't see any prospective.
Therefore, there is no support when price sliding downward. Especially at this critical time. Most company issuing Share Buy Back but why not Astro ?
Why somebody keep bising2 at counter here? If not confident can run away from here. Please run to which counter you think more confidence lah. TP 70sen? Please sell it, we standby to collect as much as posible. Please keep ur mount shut!
A lots of fake news here. Most people use this forum to goreng by spreading fake news. Don't take the comments here seriously. If everyone can make money reading comments in forum, KLCI already shot to the roof.
EPF buy Ambank too. Ambank yesterday reported profits dropped 48% & dividend cut 50%. What's makes you think the fund are good at picking stock? EPF and PNB hold large shares in Sapura energy too. Looks at the company share price and profits.
Bagus!
Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad- Expecting Better Quarters Ahead Date: 19/06/2020
Source : PUBLIC BANK Stock : ASTRO Price Target : 1.55 | Price Call : BUY Last Price : 0.815 | Upside/Downside : +0.735 (90.18%)
Astro posted a 1QFY21 headline net profit of RM73.8m, down 57% YoY, mainly dragged by lower subscription and advertising revenue as well as higher finance cost and provision for doubtful debts. After adjusting for the unrealized forex loss of RM33m, The group’s 1QFY21 core net profit came in at RM107m. Results were below expectations, accounting for c.17% of full-year estimates. Following this set of results, we cut our earnings estimates by 12%-16% for FY21F-FY23F to account for lackluster adex and lower subscribers in light of the fragile underlying market conditions where consumer spending is expecting to be weak moving forward. Therefore, our DCF-based TP is revised downwards to RM1.55 (previously RM1.80). We maintain our Outperform call on Astro as the stock’s valuation looks undemanding given that Astro is currently trading at 10x forward PER, which is near -2SD of its 5-year average mean (figure 1). On a side note, Astro declared a first interim dividend of 1 sen.
1QFY21 revenue declined by 14.7% YoY mainly due to lower contribution from both TV and Radio segment. Pay TV ARPU declined from RM100.4 to RM99.1. TV segment revenue fell by 15.7% YoY as the group recorded lower subscription and advertising revenue. Meanwhile, Radio segment revenue dropped by 37.5% YoY due to lower client advertising expenditure. Home-shopping segment revenue grew by 14.1%, leveraging on the higher viewership recorded during MCO which saw the segment increasing its reach to 2.4m customers. Weaker core earnings. 1QFY21 core net profit fell by 42% YoY due to higher finance cost. EBITDA margin decreased by 4.5% to 31% due to higher operating expenses as a percentage of revenue (content cost, merchandise cost and staff cost) incurred in both TV and Radio segment. On a more positive note, Home-shopping segment turned EBITDA positive on the back of higher sales volume recorded due to higher viewership and festive spending. Future outlook. The unprecedented impact brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in an exceptionally weak 1Q. However, we are of the view that earnings could see gradual recovery for the coming quarters as the economy reopens following a period of lockdown. Also, we expect a stronger 2H due to seasonality. We continue to favour the group for its rapid response in adapting to the new normal, on-going cost optimisation efforts and its ability to seize opportunities to create new revenue streams in its home-shopping, broadband, OTT and digital platforms. no wonder people dumping astro stock KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): Chinese tech giant Tencent’s move to acquire Malaysian video streaming platform iFlix is not expected to have a significant impact on Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s market share in the country, said analysts.
The view is that Astro still commands a strong market share in the segment via the pay-TV service provider’s Astro Go and that it remains to be seen whether Tencent’s acquisition of iFlix would bring much changes to the local paid-for video streaming space.
“In the very long term, it might [have an impact]. But for now, I think it’s negligible,” said Hong Leong Investment Bank Research analyst Syifaa’ Mahsuri Ismail when contacted.
“Astro has its own Astro Go to cater to the market, on top of its premium service, Njoi, which has been gaining traction because of the economic downturn. The service has seen rising number of subscribers due to the service’s affordable price.
“Television still has a large audience in Malaysia compared with the market for video streaming services like iFlix and Netflix, which remains small, with audiences being largely concentrated in urban areas as opposed to other areas that might have connectivity issues,” she said.
This, she said, provides a comfortable space for Astro to maintain its strong position in the country’s the television and video content business.
According to an FT Confidential Research survey, Astro Go topped the list as the most popular paid-for streaming video service in Malaysia, followed by Netflix, Google Play and Unifi TV. iFlix was ranked fifth in the independent survey last year.
Syifaa’ also noted that Astro’s customer base is largely comprised of the T20 and M40 groups — the top 20% and middle 40% income groups — who have the purchasing power to subscribe to multiple services. This, she said, means it should not be an issue for Astro in the event that Tencent ramps up its iFlix content to entice new subscribers.
“Astro does have B40 customers, who are mostly subscribers of Njoi. However, because of the low fee offered by Njoi, this group of customers could also subscribe to additional services by other providers without the need to ‘sacrifice’ the Njoi service,” she added.
Her sentiment was echoed by MIDF Research analyst Khoo Zhen Ye, who concurred that the Tencent-iFlix deal has a “minimal” impact on Astro’s business, at least in the foreseeable future.
“Astro will maintain its market share for now. We have seen new players coming into the market, including The Star [Media Group Bhd]’s streaming service dimsum entertainment, but their traction is still small compared to Astro’s,” he told theedgemarkets.com.
Meanwhile, CGS-CIMB Research analyst Kamarul Anwar said the Tencent-iFlix deal is “not a game-changer for the media landscape” which is seeing numerous players vying for engagement time and share of consumers’ wallets.
“Astro shouldn’t worry about the iFlixes or the Netflixes or the Vius of the world. The real competition for time now comes from a myriad of things — PlayStation games, Fortnite, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram. This is why Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO) said Netflix’s competition [are] actually sleep time and Fortnite, instead of HBO GO or Hulu.
“And specifically, in the TV/content space, Astro’s competition lies in piracy. Piracy costs next to nothing, it has every show and movie that a viewer wants to watch, and it is becoming really convenient to obtain pirated content,” he said.
Viu is the leading over-the-top (OTT) video service spanning Asia and the Middle East. Viu’s partner in Malaysia is Media Prima Bhd’s television arm, Media Prima Television Networks.
According to reports, Tencent purchased iFlix's “content, technology, and resources” to grow its presence in Southeast Asia. The Chinese tech giant said iFlix's catalogue of “international, local and original content” would enable it to expand the reach of its overseas video streaming service, WeTV, which it launched in Thailand in 2019.
The price tag of the acquisition deal remains unclear, but US entertainment media outlet Variety, which first published the news yesterday, cited people with knowledge of the agreement as saying that the deal was worth “several tens of millions of dollars”.
That would make the deal significantly smaller than the US$1 billion (RM4.28 billion) valuation that iFlix sought in 2019, when it planned a public listing in Australia, according to Reuters.
Not a great 1QFY1/20 but could have been worse 1QFY20 earnings and dividends missed our expectations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, the COVID-19 pandemic is easing in Malaysia. Thus, we expect future quarterly earnings and dividends to improve. We cut our EPS estimates by 21-27% and DPS estimates by 26-40%. Consequently, our DCF-based TP is cut by 25sen to MYR1.25. Yet, ASTRO still offers 28% upside in terms of capital appreciation and another 6% upside in terms of dividend yields.
KUALA LUMPUR (June 30): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd will embrace new opportunities that emerge with the deepening fragmentation of the media industry in order to deliver long-term shareholder value.
Astro chairman Tun Zaki Tun Azmi said the company would leverage its extensive market reach and position as Malaysia’s leading content creator, amidst competition from streaming wars, content disintermediation and democratisation, rampant piracy and changing customer behaviour.
"Inundated with choice, customers seek simplicity, gravitating towards a familiar, trusted brand that can meet their entertainment needs at home and beyond.
"This is Astro’s role. Our goal is to serve our viewers, listeners, shoppers and advertising clients better by enhancing customer value proposition across all products and services," he said in Astro's 2020 Annual Report.
Currently, he noted, the world is grappling with the containment and repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Malaysia’s own experience highlights the government’s heavy reliance on legitimate media, such as Astro, to not only disseminate crucial information to the public in times of national crisis, but also discredit fake news that abounds on social media
He said Astro's platform across TV, radio and digital helped amplify various government agencies’ messaging related to Covid-19 during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period to ensure that the tireless efforts of the medical frontliners as well as police and armed forces were not in vain.
Astro also made available complimentary channels to customers and offered its streaming service Astro GO to all Malaysians to keep them entertained during the MCO period.
"These initiatives were well-received, with increased viewership seen across our TV channels and substantial new users on Astro GO.
"With schools closed nationwide, we helped students continue with their studies through Astro’s three Tutor TV channels and educational programmes aired on TV Okey, a free-to-air (FTA) channel available on our platform, benefitting all students," he added.
maxis and astro, a lot of things in common especially the ultimate largest shareholders and also synergy?
astro has been privatised, then relisted.
Less people are going to cinema, travelling nowadays. entertainment via mobile phone, TV, etc. are becoming the main entertainment including TV shopping by astro, etc
share price could have been pressed down last month, probably foreign fund sold its stake but EPF grabbed astro shares continuously. It could return 90sen to RM1+ last time month anytime :)
