Leong Hup International Bhd (LHI) posted a net profit of RM67.31 million or 1.84 sen earnings per share in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2020 (3QFY2022), against a net loss of RM53.42 million or 1.46 sen loss per share in the same quarter last year, underpinned by higher contribution from both livestock and poultry-related products and feed mill segments.

Posted by ismadi6601 > 2022-11-30 11:09 | Report Abuse

The livestock and poultry-related products segment’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) increased by 261% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM87.76 million, due primarily to better margins from the higher average selling price and sales volume of broiler chickens in Vietnam, and higher average selling price of day old chicks (DOC) and broiler chickens in Malaysia.

Government subsidies and grant on livestock of RM51.5 million recognised by the group also contributed to the improved Ebitda,

its feed mill segment, which Ebitda improved by 34.1% y-o-y to RM126.44 million, benefited from better margins from the higher average selling prices and sales volume in Indonesia.

On a geographical segmentation review, Indonesia continues to be the largest segment of the group, contributing RM865 million (36.7%) to the group’s total revenue for 3QFY2022. Vietnam was the second highest at RM590.3 million (25%), followed by Malaysia which contributed RM589.8 million (25%).

LHI said demand has improved but the high cost of raw materials and the attempts by governments to manage food inflation has created uncertainties for its financial performance.

Following a strong earnings beat, Leong Hup International Bhd is expected to sustain its recovery momentum going into 4QFY22 while its longer-term prospects have also improved.

In its results review, RHB said seasonal demand and lower feed costs should bolster the poultry and egg farmer's prospects in the final quarter of the year.

The research firm noted however that the operating environment in Indonesia remains challenging and should continue to offset some of the growth from Leong Hup's other markets.

Posted by SengGor1011 > 2022-11-30 13:20 | Report Abuse

Our discounted cash flow-derived target price also stays at 61 sen (inclusive of a 4% ESG discount), implying 13x price-earnings FY22F – below its three-year mean," it said.

RHB is also bullish on Leong Hup's longer-term prospects as less volatile - albeit elevated- commodity prices should bode well for poultry operators as it would help to facilitate cost pass-throughs.

Coupled with the expectation of further normalisation in consumption and Leong Hup’s continuous capacity expansion, RHB projects FY23 earnings to grow by 18% year-on-year.

Posted by SengGor1011 > 2022-11-30 13:20 | Report Abuse

The stock’s market valuation is undemanding – it is trading at levels well below the three-year mean," said RHB.

In 9MFY22, Leong Hup's results strongly beat forecast due to a strong recovery in its sales and margins.

RHB said core net profit of RM128mil, a 170% jump over the corresponding 2021 period, accounted for 88% of its and 108% of consensus full-year estimates.

two poultry companies under its coverage, namely QL Resources Bhd and Leong Hup International Bhd, recorded stronger-than-expected earnings, partially due to government subsidies given as a result of ceiling price enforcement.

With the demand of chicken eggs overstripping the supply, the Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry had on Dec 6, announced that the government has agreed to import chicken eggs from foreign sources as a short- term solution to meet the domestic demand

TA Research said the import of eggs is not a viable long-term solution as imported eggs are generally more expensive than the ceiling price.“Rather than channelling subsidies to the producers, we opine that the government should lift the ceiling prices of eggs and directly provide support to the lower-income households,” it said.

It added that a big portion of the price-controlled eggs are sold to restaurants and bakeries, benefiting those who may not need them the most.

Based on its channel checks, supplies of chicken eggs, especially price-controlled grade A, grade B and grade C eggs are still tight, despite supplies increasing between 5% and 10% in recent weeks as farms delay the culling of layer hens by about 10 days.

Loui Low, head of research at Malacca Securities, highlights surprises in the consumer segment despite the high feedstock costs. Poultry companies, for example, raked in decent earnings, with some more than decent.

QL Resources Bhd’s net profit more than doubled to RM93.9 million for the July-September quarter from RM45.94 million a year earlier, while Leong Hup International Bhd returned to the black after registering a net profit of RM67.31 million against a net loss of RM53.42 million.

Keep some... Rebound is approaching

LEONG HUP INTERNATIONAL EARNS NET PROFIT OF RM67.3 MILLION IN
Q3FY22 AS REVENUE JUMPS 30.5%
KUALA LUMPUR, 29 November 2022 – Leong Hup International Berhad (“LHI” or the
“Group”), one of the largest fully integrated producers of poultry, egg and livestock feed in
Southeast Asia, today announced its unaudited consolidated financial results for the third
(3rd) quarter of 2022 (“Q3FY22”).
LHI and its subsidiaries (the “Group”) registered revenue of RM2.36 billion, 30.5% higher as
compared to RM1.81 billion posted in the preceding year’s corresponding quarter ended 30
September 2021 (“Q3FY21”). Profit after tax and minority interests (“PATMI”) for Q3FY22
increased to RM67.3 million from a loss of RM53.4 million in Q3FY21.
During the quarter under review, both livestock and feedmill achieved significant
improvements in performance compared to the previous financial quarter. Revenue of
livestock and poultry segment expanded by 36.7% while feedmill revenue increased by 23.7%.
The main contributor for livestock and poultry was by Vietnam, primarily due to higher
average selling price and sales volume of broiler chickens, followed by Indonesia due to higher
average selling price and sales volume of broiler chickens and DOC, while Philippines’ increase
was mainly from higher average selling price and sales volume of broiler chickens. Meanwhile,
feedmill segment benefited from better margin from higher average selling price and sales
volume in Indonesia.
On a geographical segmentation review, Indonesia continues to be the largest segment of the
Group, contributing RM865.0 million (36.7%) to the Group’s total revenue for Q3FY22.
Vietnam was the second highest at RM590.3 million (25.0%). Malaysia contributed RM589.8
million (25.0%), while Singapore and Philippines contributed RM197.9 million (8.4%) and
RM115.4 million (4.9%) respectively.
For the cumulative nine-month period ended 30 September 2022 (“9MFY22”), the Group
reported revenue of RM6.7 billion, an increase of 25.9% from RM5.3 billion recorded in the
preceding year’s corresponding nine-month period ended 30 September 2021. PATMI was RM128.2 million for 9MFY22, an increase of 170.3% from the RM47.4 million posted in the
corresponding period a year ago. Executive Director / Group Chief Executive Officer of LHI,
Tan Sri Lau Tuang Nguang shared, “The efforts by the Group to control costs over the past 2
years have borne fruits and we are reaping the results now. Nevertheless, we will continue to
build resilience and to prepare the Group for expected increases in interest rates.”

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17): MIDF Research maintained its "positive" stance on the consumer sector after the announcement for the financial assistance programme for the B40 income group.

In a research note on Tuesday, the financial assistance — renamed “Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah" — would increase consumer spending on necessities amid inflationary pressure in the market.

MIDF also remained "positive" on the sector due the steady labour market that supports domestic consumption and improving margins for food and beverage producers, combined with lower global commodity prices and a stronger ringgit.

"We view that food and beverages producers and poultry farmers will benefit from the cash assistance due to inelastic demand for staple food items despite the current environment of high inflationary pressure and rising interest rates," it said in a note.

On selected sectors, MIDF kept a "buy" rating on several companies, including F&N Holdings Bhd with a target price (TP) of RM29.70, QL Resources Bhd (TP: RM6.30), Leong Hup International Bhd (TP: 80 sen), Spritzer Bhd (tp: RM2.64), Hup Seng Industries Bhd (TP: 79 sen) and AEON Co (M) Bhd (TP: RM1.81). Meanwhile, Nestle Malaysia Bhd was maintained as "neutral" with a TP of RM137.80.

The research house said that the announcement is not expected to affect its earnings projection for consumer companies under its coverage as its had factored in the higher consumer spending into its forecast for 2023.

At the time of writing, the consumer products and services indices on Bursa had decreased by 0.11% to 598.12 points, with selected consumer stocks leading the indice including Padini Holdings Bhd (up nine sen at RM3.78), Signature International Bhd (up five sen at RM2.39), Bonia Corp Bhd (up two sen RM2.55), Kawan Food Bhd (up three sen at RM2.33) and Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd (up four sen at RM23.04).

Meanwhile, Amway (M) Holdings Bhd was unchanged at RM5.26, while Harrisons Holdings (M) Bhd was flat at RM6.68.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the cash aid on Monday (Jan 16), with its first round of payment starting on Tuesday. A total of 8.7 million receivers in the B40 income group will get the first round of cash aid payments amounting to RM1.67 billion.

Out of the 8.7 million receivers, four million households will receive RM300 each, costing the government RM1.2 billion, followed by 1.2 million senior citizens without spouses who will receive RM100 each, while the remaining 3.5 million single individuals will receive RM100 each. Cash aid beneficiaries in the rural areas including Sabah and Sarawak will also receive aid on the same date.

years prior to the offer, and comparing with its NA.

Besides its business in poultry, Leong Hup is also an investment holdingcompany.

Hence, the non-interested shareholders would be able to use this disposal as an opportunity to realise their investment in Leong Hup at a higher return than they would obtain in disposing of the same in the open market, it said.
Given this, TA Securities recommended that the shareholders of Leong Hup vote in favour of the proposals. The proposals will be tabled at the upcoming EGM to be held on Jan 19, 2012. The resolution regarding the proposed distribution is required to be passed by a majority of at least 75% of the non-interested shareholders at the EGM.
Leong Hup started out in the early 1960s as a small farm and was listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia on Oct 29, 1990.
Besides its business in poultry, which includes the rearing and distribution of parent-stock day-old chicks, Leong Hup is also an investment holding company.
Some of the directors of Leong Hup are also shareholders of Emerging Glory, a special-purpose private limited company, and they include Datuk Lau Bong Wong, Datuk Lau Eng Guang and Tan Sri Lau Tuang Nguang. Each of them owns 25% of Emerging Glory. The directors and Leong Hup Management Sdn Bhd have a combined 46.74% direct interest in Leong Hup.
If the proposals were approved and the disposal goes through, Leong Hup is expected to be delisted by the end of March next year.
Leong Hup shares have seen an increase in price since their six-month low on Sept 26, which closed at RM1.51. The stock ended unchanged yesterday at RM1.70, on volume of 206,900.

MIDF Research says government subsidies and grants for livestock farming in Malaysia could potentially help sustain Leong Hup’s margin by reducing the impact of price controls on chicken and eggs.

PETALING JAYA: Leong Hup International Bhd earnings recovery momentum is expected to be sustained in the fourth quarter of this year (4Q22), but margin compression will persist in the near term with raw material costs for livestock and poultry still high.

The group’s vertical integration of poultry, eggs and livestock feed, and geographic diversification across countries could partially mitigate against any downside.

MIDF Research said government subsidies and grants for livestock farming in Malaysia could potentially help sustain Leong Hup’s margin by reducing the impact of price controls on chicken and eggs.

According to RHB Research, the company’s strong earnings recovery momentum should continue into 4Q22 due to seasonal demand and serve as a reflection of lower feed costs.

However, the operating environment in Indonesia has remained challenging and should continue to be a drag on Leong Hup’s earnings, thereby offsetting some of the growth from other markets, said RHB Research.

TA Research expects the lifting of the export ban of broiler chickens to Singapore to contribute positively to the group’s Singapore poultry segment earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, which have underperformed despite the resumption of economic activities.

Additionally, the subsidy for price-controlled chicken eggs was raised to eight sen per egg, effective Oct 12, 2022, from three sen per egg previously.

This should improve the results of the 54.6%-owned subsidiary, Teo Seng Capital Bhd.

Prices of main raw materials such as corn and soybean meal are both down about 18% and 16%, respectively, from their peaks and have since stabilised.

TA Research revised its target price (TP) for Leong Hup to 70 sen per share from 53 sen previously, based on 12 times FY23 earnings per share. It reiterates its “buy’’ call on the stock.

HLIB Research raised its FY22 to FY24 core net profit forecasts for the company by 44.8%, 6.8% and 6.8%, respectively, to account for subsidy payments for FY22 and a higher operating margin assumption for its livestock feed segment.

It also upgraded the stock to a “buy’’ call with a higher TP of 60 sen per share.

RHB Research maintains its “buy’’ call on Leong Hup with a TP of 61 sen per share, while MIDF Research retains its “neutral’’ stand with a TP of 47 sen per share.

MIDF Research cited downside risks to its forecast as a substantial increase in the cost of raw materials, adverse regulatory change and fierce competition.
