He is an individual and his ability to give scholarships has limitations. He is not the government which has unlimited money. Just respect his wishes. Those on medical studies have to find other sources of financing. I doubt you can find another Mr Koon. After all, nobody owes us a living.

Companies pay millions to buy new ideas. He gave u an idea for free BUT it is up to u to evaluate his idea n see whether it is worth taking the risk. Many a time, I saw that some of the shares he recommended are thinly traded n I did not follow his idea.

They are trying to imitate Virgin Atlantic's MVNO. IF u patronize them, u can accumulate points to exchange for some gifts like Bonus link. If u need a lot of accumulated points to exchange for just 1 ball point pen, then it doesn't have much effect.

Actually fr their financials. If the company has huge borrowings when compared to its capital base n reserves, it is highly leveraged. Maxis is highly leveraged. When Maxis was listed, it started borrowing to gear up its balance sheet so that it has an optimum level of debt n equity. But over-borrowing means that you have less room to maneuver if something unforseen happens like the sudden announcement by gomen to auction its spectrum.

Telcos are facing challenging times 1) the new spectrum fees will be known by Aug 2) the refarming of 4G bands will take place in 2017.
Thus there is another "unknown" next year. This issue alone will affect the telco's ability to pay dividends not even taking into account the price war n competiton they are facing.
In a way, that is why we are seeing the prices of telcos dropping n is also an opportunity to buy. But we can't foresee how low they will drop before stabilizing. You must have a lot of cash in order to hold them for the long term. You must be able to stand the stress of seeing their values drop due to the vagaries of the stockmart. Which is how markets behave.

Hi Angie, Axiata is a holding company whicb holds its investment in Celcom, Robi etc. All assets n liabilites of celcom, Robi, XL etc are all added up together in the group accounts hence, it is not possible to look at Celcom's financials.
But from what I gather from our investment bank's reports (I can't recall which one as i deleted them from my pc after reading), Celcom is highly geared, meaning it has substantial bank borrowings. This is the common man's understanding of "cash rich".
Axiata derives its income from dividends received fr its investment i.e. Celcom, XL n after paying its expenses, those dividends are its profit fr which Axiata declares its dividends.

Catching the bottom is risky. With sentiment on semi conductor stocks bruised by Apple, I do not see any big upside on this stock. If u buy, u have to keep for some time. After all, no one is going to chase after semi conductor stock for some time now. The dynamics have completely changed. Besides shrinking demand, USD/MYR exchange rates have reversed.

All telcos will be affected as data gets dirt cheap. Celcom started the price war but now says they do not want a price war. It is too late. TM is going to start another price war.

At the rate things are going on, we will be like India where no telcos can afford to introduce new technology. Everything has to be dirt cheap there. No need for 5G. No company has the money to introduce 5G as things dirt cheap.

A temporary state of discontinuity. Smart phone mart probably saturated. It won't be long it will get cheaper n cheaper just like the telcos facing saturation here. And the spark that this juggernaut set off affected the entire supply chain. But will cheaper n cheaper smart phones sparked off an economic recession? We may enter a temporary state of adjustment to cheaper smart phones I think.

Every telco is facing this situation due to intense competition not just Digi. Even if u lower yr price considerably, it does not mean yr profit will increase if it resulted in razor thin margins. In the end, u would have a lot of unprofitable customers n getting network congestion. Even TM which demerged its mobile arm to what is now Axiata is now trying to get into mobile business. The worse is yet to come. Right now, I am not invested in telcos.

Hi, twobits, I wondered how you are able to overlay the Ichimoku cloud on yr charts posted in Ombak. I attended a webinar by RHB on futures last night n they too are showing us charts in "investing.com". So I went to "investing.com" n try out their charts n I found that they do not have the "ichimoku" tool whereas the chart on Gamuda posted by you have the indicator. Could you pls enlighten me? Thanks

All telcos are not fools. For example, there are no telcos which give u a free smartphone with no contract to enable u port out the next day. They have better safeguards than that. Digi gives free smartphone with some of their packages but u have to pay for the smartphone upfront. Then they will reduce yr monthly bill with a fixed amount for a period of time till the upfront payment u made has been exhausted. Some of those with an axe to grind who posted in facebook that other telcos do not require them to sign a contract.

the question is will Maxis do it or not. not "can". After all these strategies can be easily duplicated by yr rivals. Another question, using Umobile line, can u make a call back home from Club Med, Bali? I can't do it using Digi. After this incident, I now know how cheap is cheap.
2016-04-15 12:13 | Report Abuse
Those funds like EPF, ASM etc have big holdings of Maxis n will lend support. Otherwise the value of their investment will see big drop. As to Digi, it is a slow counter but the best bet in the telco sector. Both Maxis n Celcom's balance sheet is overstretched.
But they can easily raise funds using Tony Fernandez way. Air Asia rose instead of dropping. It pays to have a financially strong shareholder as an owner. Maybe, for Maxis after sometime it will stabilized after the price war is over. Ppl now say P1 (Webe)'s package is revolutionary. OSK said it is for promotional purposes. P1 has to rent its network fr Celcom. If it can go on giving these cheap packages, Celcom will "tutup kedai". After taking into the network rental, P1 would probably eke out a small profit n will not contribute much to TM's profit.
