He is purposely picking on the FM , challenging his decision. Maybe there is a prawn behind the stone. On the other hand the FM has not come out with an argument that is compelling enough to shut the ex minister mouth. I believe the more compelling reasons are:
1. The Gov't has never financially assisted the glove industry in the past, so it is not justified to want to impose a windfall tax unlike the palm oil and IPP , where Gov't has subsided the end products and therefore justified to recover the investment so that Gov't can continue to help the industries in the future.
2. Unlike the palm oil and IPP , which are location based which makes it difficult to move abroad, glove companies can easily relocate or perhaps decide to scale down locally and expand aggressively abroad if they are not happy with the windfall tax.
3. To want to impose a windfall tax only after 2 good Qr profit is like rushing to kill the goose after laying only one golden egg. There are now higher cost involved for the glove companies to comply with more stringent regulations, higher raw material cost as well as extra cost to improve efficient to ensure timely delivery. All these cost should be priority to be allocated first.
4. Last but not least, isn't RM 4.7b +RM 400m = RM 5.1b to be paid in income tax and donation for 2020 a very good amount contribution by the entire glove industry? Apa lagi mau? Asking for another RM 4.8b is like double taxing. Someone should ask him if he like to 48% income tax ?

Bro Ibelieve, The smart investors can see that vaccine will further help glove demand with exponential rise in ASP. The more problems TG gonna face the more Supermax will directly benefit, although we have yet to know if Supermax gonna face any foreign workers Covid infection cases. We now know vaccines will face many challenges ahead such as procurement, logistic, efficacy, safety and public acceptance. 70% herd immunity can only be obtained probably by 2023 onwards. Meanwhile bird flu and swine flu are knocking on the doors looking for entry points into human realms. I don't see how gloves are gonna be in less demand any time soon.

First they are assuming the virus doesn't mutate, secondly, the length of "protection" vary for each individual. Third, no conclusive study on whether the virus can still survive in the body and cause further infection to others and fourth no proper data collection to show any comprehensive scientific study. China vaccine are using traditional but mature technology, it clearly stated that the protection period most likely can last for 1 to 3 years.

so the repeat of injection is there, it still need plenty of glove in the future.

Problem with China vaccine development is, just like Russian vaccines, its a very Gov't controlled and initiated, which make us question its independences and reliability in the vaccine trials. All the claims are made by themselves but reality is there is no clinical evidence presented to the global medical communities for independent reviews, So we just have to take their words for it, although nobody else really know the true performance of their vaccines and any associated problems that can arise. Maybe that's why PM announce will buy Pfizer first, maybe bcos Dr Noor at least hv certain assurance since they have published certain critical data that can be clinically reviewed and if they have FDA approval then they should be relatively safe, even though the real efficacy against the virus is still in question.

The main question or issue to us forumers is " When the vaccines are out, would they reduce or increase the need for gloves? " This question is not about we, the glove supporters, wish vaccines will fail, but more on whether the initial roll out batches will be effective against Covid19. Those who accuse others of hoping vaccines don't work are just crazy nuts with their own agenda. Of course everyone wants the vaccines to solve the misery we all going thru now. But evidence are now showing up that it would not be an easy path at the early stages, and will definitely face many challenges and teething issues. Eventually, after a couple of years and further fine tuning, vaccines will improve further and will become more effective. Meanwhile, gloves will definitely become more and more in demand due to the converging demand of the coming vaccination programs, on-going Covid treatment and highly stringent general SOP in all sectors. We the glove investors are betting that, during these period of uncertainties, glove companies will continue to do well and will continue to do well even at post pandemic time due to many Gov'ts long term stock piling programs and higher SOP requirements for all biz sectors. Amongst all the glove counters, the best performer, without doubt, will be Supermax.

Thank Agjl for this good article from which its obvious that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines phase 3 trials results were designed to look good from the beginning. The motivation is obviously money and profits. Even now as they are pushing for mass roll out, much of the critical data and info from the trials test has not been released to the medical communities for independent reviews. This can only happen bcos Pfizer and Moderna were given fast track licenses and enjoy impunity against any harm their vaccines will cause. We should expect many side effects and issues arising from the first batch release for mass inoculation. Same goes to all the other vaccine candidates. Only certainty is more vaccine problems, more fear and more gloves are needed.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have discovered a kind of mutation that hadn’t been seen in coronaviruses before and raises fresh concerns about the evolution of vaccine resistance.

In their search for mutations, researchers have mostly focused on flips of one genetic letter to another — a kind of mutation known as a substitution. But Paul Duprex and his colleagues discovered that the viruses mutating in a chronically infected patient were changing differently: They were losing sets of genetic letters.

Typically, a mutation that deletes a genetic letter is catastrophic to a virus. Our cells read genetic letters three at a time to choose a new building block to add to a growing protein. A deletion of one genetic letter can entirely scramble the instructions for a viral protein, so that it cannot form a functional shape.

But Dr. Duprex and his colleagues found that the coronaviruses in the patient could lose genetic letters and yet stay viable. The secret: The viruses lost genetic letters in sets of three. Instead of destroying the genetic recipe for a viral protein, the mutations snipped out one or more amino acids.

As much as Dr. Duprex despises the pandemic, he finds it hard not to admire the elegance of these mutations. “It’s so cool, it’s brilliant,” he said.

Having found these deletion mutations in viruses from one person, Dr. Duprex and his colleagues wondered how common they were.

Searching public databases of coronavirus genomes, they discovered that deletions were surprisingly widespread. “It’s happening independently in different parts of the world,” Dr. Duprex said.

All the deletions, it turns out, only arise in one region, the spike protein. Dr. Duprex and his colleagues found that deletions in the spike gene didn’t prevent the coronavirus from infecting cells.

The virus is definitely smarter than most of the naysayers here who said that when vaccines are out the Covid19 is doomed, and glove counters are doomed. But the Covid19 is saying, when vaccines are out , I can just cut out 3 genetic letters from my genome and the vaccine is doomed and the world is gonna need more and more gloves before it can eradicate me.

As the vaccines are being offered to various gov't, it has come to the hard decision time for the gov'ts. I m glad we have a good and sensible Health DG who is careful and thorough with making the right decision. I think the vaccines companies need to show sufficient data and convince him that safety and efficacy is proven before he will allow them to be used on the population.

@pharker The incident at TG will bring a warning signal to Supermax to quickly tighten their SOP on preventive measures to be taken on their factory workers.

I believe given the management's capability, preventives steps already taken..unless they are sleeping and doing nothing, which i think is not likely, but who knows...

I think preCovid, era the workers' living conditions has been typical crammed dormitory style for most factories. There was nothing wrong with that, just that with Covid, our sense of what is proper now has changed tremendously. Hopefully Supermax provided a higher standard living quarters to their workers all these while

I believe there are many many more worse factories and more deplorable condition than TG and not reported. The only reason TG is in the spot light is becos its the buggest and the most succesful.. if the authority is so concern aboutbthe welfare of the foreign workers they shouldnhave a blanket raid on all the hostels including all the GLCs constructiiond and plantations companies....and why not one being raided? That says a lot about target raiding!!!!

TG is cash rich thus can squeeze more out of it be it by ways if penalising or summon or whichever way ...

Pfizer has released clinical data for Phase 3 trial, so it will be quicker to approve that, but pfizer cannot produce so much at one go. Morever FDA yet to approve it and Msia Gov't still have to ascertain for themselves thru NPRA before can roll out here. China vaccines has no reliable data, so Msia Govt thru local resaerch group under monitoring by NPRA will carry out the phase 3 trial. This will take at least 4-6 months to complete. So for Msia we should be looking at 3Q-4Q22 to inoculate 60-70% of the population if all goes well. This time frame should apply worldwide too. No Gov't would simply just allow whole population to be inoculated with proper measures and control in place.

@staedy maybe those are true for entry price which is low, I enter at the wrong time and ave now is 9.7 seems like forever to get back even to that level

@Agjl As for me, i will put my monies where i can see and roughly gaige where its earnings gona be. I m old fashion. I will invest the “bread and butter” type of stick where i can touch and feel...concept and MOUs just an illusions to me...concepts and MOUs remain cocepts and MOUs unless they to real earnings....may be i m stupid but thats what i learnt in fundamental investing. Well, its boring at times...but its assuring..at least to me thus fate
