Regarding chinese tourists part, recent report expect the amount will be dropped. Bcos 10, 20K china tourist was brought in by forest citi developers to view the properties, but with china givernmnet capital out flow control, all those tours is cancelled this year. And china tourist spending also will be cut, bcos now china even put a credit card limit on their citizen at over sea.
seem like really make sense the 3 articles, thanks for sharing, Alipay linked to all users in China, GHL linked to all merchants, the complement each others, not compete with each others
you have wrote a lot of cock and bull on this GHLSYS, but in your final sentence, you said you let your kids to enjoy the benefits of this company. real sh*t man.
after reading all the article , I am still not convince and believe the ali-pay which very much more established needs GHL in Malaysia and share part of the profit with GHL. I have a feeling this is just a construe of the writer. putting similar thing together to form a big picture that may not happen in real life. in fact ali-pay may turn a big threat or challenge to GHL my 2 cents views. please ignore if you do not agree
Fortune bull, Alibaba bought lazada (focus on Asean market), Ant financial owned by Jack Ma might buy GHL (Specialised in Asean Market), just a wild guess, hahaha
Partnering with Alipay for merchant acquisition in Thailand
In addition, GHL has also started a new merchant acquisition drive in Thailand following a tie up with China based payment service provider, Alipay. Under the partnership, GHL is in charge of acquiring Thai merchants to accept Alipay payment from Chinese tourists in Thailand. We see potential for GHL to replicate the model across other Asean countries. Currently, GHL has about 200 merchants signed up under the programme.
Original quoted from CIMB analyst report. Not I say one. Already mentioned replicate the above business model in other countries. Next is Malaysia if Alipay is coming.
GHL operates in brick and mortar business, off line business. can GHL benefit from e commerce?
Alipay started as e commerce specialist and the reason for the success of taobao..and alipay even conquering non traditional areas and become an all purpose card.......
I will say alibaba e commerce business will drop in long term. Luckily Jack Ma is smart to know to use the debts funded from alibaba to invest in other fields.
Ghl is ok but the partnership with Alipay has marginal impact to Ghl.
All Chinese tourists will always have their Master and Visa with them, even if they use this card on Ghl terminal, Ghl will earn....so having Alipay in their terminal makes no different to Ghl. The "partnership" will benefit Alipay more than Ghl.
The 2 segment of growth ; a)Internet payment and b) micro retailer (small retailer). This area Ghl will loses out.
1) Ghl Internet payment gateway/systems are not strong, no usp, no barrier of entry and new competitor could easily come in, infact they are losing out to ipay88. Alipay will destroy them easily and I think this is what Alipay aiming.
2) Micro retailer, Ghl has no advantages, ghl can't compete with cheaper mobile solution....e.g. mpos by maxis.
In US some merchant can just buy the credit card terminal from special store and take it to their bank for cheaper rates.
Trend of debit card use in Malaysia are also not good for Ghl as the merchant discount are very small.
I think this is the concern and it might affect Ghl in long term if they are not prepare in this area; 1) technology 2) consumer spending behavior.
Conclusion this Alibababa rally is more hope than substance.
Pavillion, true, how true. 1) technology change so fast, a company is here today and will be gone tomorrow if they are not keeping up with the changing technology. Look at Kodak. I wonder this GHL writer long term is how long a period? 10, 20 years???
"I am very excited to welcome Actis as a partner, as they bring an impressive track record in the payments sector, especially in emerging markets. "Together, we are fully aligned in our ambition to become the leading end-to-end payment service provider in ASEAN by deploying world-class payment infrastructure, technology and to further expand our growing footprint into new ASEAN markets," said Loh.
