The Real Trick To Investing Is — Patience.
You need patience to see the stock go to the bottom.
And you need patience to see the stock go to the top.
And you also need patience to see the stock to skyrocket.
And then you also need patience to see your compound dividends coming in every single month or quarterly.

Charlie Munger once said, “The big money doesn’t come from the trading every single day, but from patience of wait-and-do-nothing.”

So, if you want to make big money with patience…

We maintain our view that the FBMKLCI is in a new major bull cycle that started in March 2020, after witnessing a downcycle from July 2014 to March 2020. Like previous upcycle that started from October 2008 low of 801.27 and ended higher at 1896.23 in July 2014, we believe the FBMKLCI is in midway of another major upcycle that will propel the benchmark index to a new high (historical high is 1,896.23 and it is possible to rise beyond 2,000 points) before the next general election in 2027. Major catalysts will be the structural reforms that will improve the nation’s financial standing, the huge inflow of foreign direct investments in growth sectors, resilient domestic spending aided by job security and policy measures, and strong corporate earnings growth. These factors should attract greater foreign participation as the US rate cut possibilities rise as the current foreign shareholding of 19.6% is low compared to an average 23.2% between 2014 and 2019 before volatile domestic political conditions eroded investor confidence.

Analysts are predicting that the ringgit’s rebound from a 26-year low will prove more lasting than a previous attempt as global funds return to Malaysian assets and the export outlook improves.

(May 31): The ringgit has raced ahead of all its Asian peers in the past three months and if market watchers are right, the move is set to gain traction.

The currency — which has climbed nearly 1% since the end of February — is expected to rise to 4.65 per dollar by year-end from 4.7050 now, according to strategists surveyed by Bloomberg. Rising foreign inflows and income repatriation by state firms are fuelling the optimism.

Analysts are predicting that the ringgit’s rebound from a 26-year low will prove more lasting than a previous attempt as global funds return to Malaysian assets and the export outlook improves. Local stocks are set to receive their first monthly inflow since February while overseas investors snapped up US$233 million (RM1.1 billion) of the nation’s bonds in April.

The ringgit’s performance is due to “foreign inflows into domestic equity and bond markets, improved growth prospects and a widening of the current-account surplus”, said Christopher Wong, a strategist at Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp in Singapore.

Given the latest results, the TTM EPS rises to 68.2 cents. Should we assume its historic PER of 12.3 holds, the new target price would be RM8.38, a price that the stock last hit 11 years ago!

If cimb can keep up with such performances in their next few quarters rm 8 to 10 is highly possible. Compare to some other banks their dividend still consider low. Hope they will pay more dividends.

First quarter 2024 earnings: EPS and revenues exceed analyst expectations

EPS: RM0.18 (up from RM0.15 in 1Q 2023).
Revenue: RM5.22b (up 12% from 1Q 2023).
Net income: RM1.94b (up 18% from 1Q 2023).
Profit margin: 37% (up from 35% in 1Q 2023). The increase in margin was driven by higher revenue.

Revenue exceeded analyst estimates by 6.3%. Earnings per share (EPS) also surpassed analyst estimates by 6.2%.

Revenue is forecast to grow 7.2% p.a. on average during the next 3 years, compared to a 7.1% growth forecast for the Banks industry in Malaysia.

Over the last 3 years on average, earnings per share has increased by 25% per year but the company’s share price has only increased by 15% per year, which means it is significantly lagging earnings growth.

Profit Taking Continues

The FBM KLCI fell for an 8th straight day as profit taking activities continue. Selling continued in the broad market as well, however heavy hitters within the healthcare and transportation & logistics space kept their respective indices from falling into the red.
