We got our final dividend on the 6th of May last year. Hopefully, we can get this year's final dividend by the end of this month. It is none of our fault.

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/maybank-has-made-provision-variables-mco-30%C2%A0

Farid highlighted that Maybank has made a whopping non-performing loan provision of RM4.6 billion in 2020 which has also taken into account the likelihood of impairment this year.

“Most of it is done on the basis of macroeconomic variables to prepare Maybank for the eventual possibilities that there will be impairment come 2021.

“To some extent, if you've seen some of the banks in the US, especially, they have reversed some of the provisions in the fourth quarter, but we did not make such a reversal,” said Farid, explaining that the macroeconomic variables have to be sustainable before the bank shall make any reversal.

Qtr report and dividend. Time to invest, only RM 8.25.

Posted by Dividendplayer > 2021-05-07 14:09 | Report Abuse

When will the ex date and payment date be announced ?

Posted by Dividendplayer > 2021-05-07 14:23 | Report Abuse

If not mistaken , the next qtr report will be 21st May. But previous report dividend not yet paid. How will this be done ?

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2021-05-07 16:01 | Report Abuse

Still taking their sweet time to officially announce details for the payment of the final dividend. Disappointing.

This delay in payment is tantamount to loss of opportunity. The dividend should be already deployed and working to generate further income. Dividend already approved during agm . Whats the issue ?
What happens if next qtr report is below expectations?
Not to mention the many extra weeks of share being pushed down to keep drp price low. All because they cockxed up the agm ? Really ?

The are holding back the ex-date so that funds can continue to sell glove stock at higher price to retailers. Once ex-date set, banks will rally at the expense of gloves. So they are stretching it as far as they can..

Posted by Dividendplayer > 2021-05-08 02:36 | Report Abuse

That actually makes a lot of sense ......... At our expense sadly. Buy yeah, indicators and price trends actually points to this. Interesting observation.

Some companies announce QR results with dividends and dividends payment date at the same time, why can't Maybank do the same? Why make us wait and wait?

MBB has to wait for Bursa approval as it involves issuence of new shares for DRIP... that's why MBB can declare a high dividend yield as they do not pay cash from the cash register and pay ypu with shares only.. so high dividend also just on paer only.. if u want cash.. u sell and other investors pay their dividend value.. so it is a win win and you take the risk of price going up or down... and because of this they give you a discount of 4-5% (usually) from the market price when they declare DRIP

Among top dividend-yielding sectors, his team expects financials and materials to have room to increase earnings.

“The dividend-paying element in a stock points us to quality — a synonym of balance sheet resilience and stability in operations,” said Frank Tsui, a senior fund manager at Value Partners who is involved in the firm’s high-dividend strategy. Investing in dividend stocks “makes sense” in the current environment, he said.

Share holder approval already received during agm on the 6th. This confirms the amount of dividend to be paid. ( i was relieved to be honest as the unusual delays and silence from them had me worried at one stage)

Only difference here is "announcement date" if I'm.not mistaken is still not set , since ex date and payment date is not yet announced. This affects the drp price correct ?
Irregardless of their reasons , if the price rallies , the drp price will be higher and vice versa obviously.

So looks like , besides the theory mentioned , about controlling the flow of funds. They could also be trying to control the drp price as well with these actions.

Well , no point worrying about things we have no control over. I do suspect a very healthy up trend soon as all this selling to push down price will likely be reversed very shortly . We shall see .

I'll take all the dividend in cash. Then buy Maybank after some time. The price hopefully then will go lower than the DRP price as in the past.

The DRP portion is only 21 sen....so you need to own at least about 4000 shares in order to be entitled to subscribe to one full lot (100 shares)...haha :)

Yes, for long term investor, this is good entry point, minus the coming dividend, you are actually only paying 7.80-90.

The last batch I bought was on 4-5-21 at 8.26/27, should have queue lower and waited another day :(

MAYBANK is our Top Pick for the banking sector for its most favourable risk-to reward with the highest dividend yield in the industry plus solid ROE prospects. MAYBANK hosted a briefing to share its 5-year plan and strategies to achieve planned targets by 2025. Fundamentally, these targets include: (i) sustainable ROEs of 13-15%; (ii) CIR (cost to income ratio) of less than 45%; and (iii) EPS of above 100.0 sen (accounting for future dividend reinvestments). Management also aspires to position the group as a regional ESG leader by driving sustainable financing up to RM50bn in 2025, and to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Buy with a TP of RM10.60 or a PBV of 1.37x derived from a higher applied ROE of 11% (which is below management’s 5-year target of 13-15%.
