Tomorrow...MBB will open at the level it traded for the whole afternoon on Friday, before being pushed down during the close.....THAT IS 8.07.

...after that, up or down is anybody's guess...

...like my sifu tolle said....if you can correctly predict the market...Warren will pay you USD 1M to have a dinner with you

...haha :p

Maybank Berhad downgrade to Underweight

A possible interest rate hike in Q1-Q2 2022 may translate into lower expected demand for lending. Therefore, less lending may cause less customers which in turn could exert pressure on bank earnings in the upcoming quarters. Banks earn profit with depository money and from lending activities and even though the margins will remain the same, the demand will certainly plummet with rate hikes in the horizon. Therefore, we are very bearish on financial sector except consumer lending companies.

Long term price target: RM7.65

Posted by wallstreetrookie > 2021-10-10 21:36 | Report Abuse

However, we remain bullish on financial sector in Malaysia despite the bearish calls on Public Bank and Maybank. These two companies will continue to dominate the local financial sector in both trading/investment and loan/deposit operations. Please do not confuse the bearish call with a proper short report. We only expect a minor correction for BM Financial Services Index.

Meanwhile, the US Treasury yields have recently continued to rise with 9 members of the FOMC in favour of an earlier rate hike in 2022 in the recent Fed meeting as compared to 7 previously. The pressure for rate hikes is expected to also spill over to the emerging markets including Malaysia. Any increase in interest rates is positive on banks’ interest income and margins.

Retain our OVERWEIGHT stance on the sector with our top BUYs on RHB Bank (fair value RM6.80/share), Maybank (FV RM9.90/share) and CIMB Group (FV RM5.80/share). We favour banks with expected improvement in regional performance from the gradual economic recovery and banks with undemanding valuations.

@stkoay Yes I believe they are rebalancing their portfolio too. As rightly pointed out by you, value wise MBB is the clear winner in the longer term while Tenaga with the current LHDN, Coal Price and ESG hanging over their heads seem to make it relatively unattractive compared to MBB.

"I would also like to clarify that in implementing the current moratorium, all banking institutions have taken various measures that help to further reduce the cost of credit, especially for the most affected borrowers, and go beyond the obligations set out in the original credit agreement," he said.

First, he said, all banks had agreed not to charge compound interest on interest or penalty interest on all product loans during the moratorium. While there will be no compound interest, the minister said regular interest (or accrued interest) will continue to be considered on the accrued loan balance.

This is because banks must continue to meet their obligations to pay interest to depositors, cover other funding costs, and allow banks to continue to offer credit to stimulate the economy, according to the minister.

"Second, credit card holders can request to convert the balance of their credit card loan to a term loan at lower financing rates.

"Thirdly, borrowers who apply for assistance through AKPK and are among the most affected, such as borrowers who have lost their source of income or households facing the situation of the death of a breadwinner, can receive a reduction in interest costs from banks as one of the loan restructuring assistance packages," Tengku Zafrul added.

Why did @wallstreetrookie only downgraded pbb and mbb? He left comments in pbb and mbb forums only but not other bank forums.

“The banks have agreed not to charge compound interest or penalise borrowers in any form. Banks need the accrued interest on accumulated loan balances as they need to pay interest to their depositors, and bear financing costs,” said Yamani.

Yamani added that banks were discussing the request for a three-month interest moratorium extension for B40 borrowers, who were mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on transformation and political stability signed by the prime minister and Pakatan Harapan leaders.

“This has to be studied as it will affect their financial status as well as their shareholders’ interests. A workable solution will be announced and implemented.”

ya, @wallstreetrookie unsolicited comments are a joke really. commenting without basis and against general consensus would be unwise. today's PBB and MBB price says otherwise.

Agree with stkoay
Agree with AllYouCanBuy,
Agree with jeffchan1901

1. More loans with higher interest rates prior to C19
than now even with much lower interest rates.
2. Higher margins at higher interest rates
previously.
3. PBB & MBB will suffer.
(His statement highlighted only MBB & PBB.
All banks will suffer, not only these 2).

These 3 facts disprove his statements.

Going forward,
with ff returning & economy reopening & returning
to normal open business environment,
there will be GREATER business growth for banks.
More Potential Growth for banks' share price.

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/cimb-closes-rm5-first-time-february-2020

Banking stocks, regarded as a proxy to the economy, have attracted renewed buying on the back of an anticipated economic recovery, after more economic sectors were allowed to operate and the resumption of interstate travel in the country.

The Bursa Malaysia Financial Service index closed 140.90 points or 0.93% higher at 15,353.46.

CIMB’s larger rival Malayan Banking Bhd closed up 11 sen or 1.37% at RM8.16.

Gash19 : if u change counters, u dont miss out on the action much, but if u exit the market and hold cash, then there sure will be papaer loss/papaer gain.. both useless. Only ok i fu see a market big drop and grab.

But is that possible? it is always a gamble.. maybe no drop at all? then what?..

Anyways no right nor wrong, just lose much or less, or gain much or gain less...life got more meaning than numbers... as long as u are happy and not grumpy, that it is all good.
Maybe ur were fated to change counters ( glove perhaps) and loseor gain 10 fold ). so consider ur self lucky.

Pls have humour and move on, Everybody who has bought a share eventually, always regrets after buying or sellng or held on to their shares.. but only on hindsight.

“Banks are always the first liners when foreigners buy our stocks. They are stable, safe, fairly good growth and provide good dividend,” he told Bernama.
