At about 40km long, Line 3 was in planning and design under the previous national government administration of Malaysia and has an estimate of US $11 billion, with a significant section in the centre of Kuala Lumpur running underground. The line was planned as a circle line to integrate the public transport system in the Klang Valley (Fig 1).
At the end of 2018, the MMC-Gamuda JV, which completed Line 1 and is currently completed Line 2, resubmitted an alternative proposal for MRT Line 3.
The proposal stated construction could take place in several phases, with the first phase costing about $5 billion.
"Dr Wee, who congratulated MRT Corp, turnkey contractor MMC Gamuda, and other contractors for the good progress under Phase 1, said the Putrajaya line covered some of the mostly densely populated areas such as Sri Damansara, Kepong, Jinjang and Kampung Batu, and would bring much benefit to the people."
“MMC-Gamuda’s expertise in tunnelling work bodes well for its chances, as 80% of MRT3’s alignment would be underground,” RHB Research noted in a report on Monday.
The consortium members have under their belts experience as the PDP in two prior MRT lines, the LRT3, as well as tunnelling works for MRT1 and MRT2.
Tunnelling experience and the ownership of tunnel-boring machines are key advantages of the MMC-Gamuda-GKent JV, RHB Research added, considering that 80% of works are slated to be underground works and the remaining 20% are elevated works.

Let us compare Gamuda snd MMC, both are very well-established giant companies in their own business.. Gamuda..biggest construction company in Msia and Hwy Toll Collector.. MMC ..biggest ports operator controlling 50% of Msia import and export plus owner of power plants and Gas Msia and very valuable Johore Airport with its thousands acres of surrounding land worth many billions !!! Gamuda made net profit of $233m in its latest half yr. So, annualised it might make $464m this yr. MMC made net profit of $375m last yr or less profit than Gamuda by $89m or less by 19% .. Market cap of Gamuda is $9.2b !!! Market cap of MMC is $3.1b only !!!! Gamuda only made 19% more than MMC but it is 3 times more expensive than MMC. How come ?? The revival of infrastructure projects such as the mass rapid transit line 3 (MRT3), high-speed rail (HSR) project and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) would be a boon for MMC Corp Bhd.
AllianceDBS Research said chances of the said infrastructure projects surfacing in the upcoming Budget 2021 “were high”, as they were “shovel-ready” projects and would be the ideal projects for the government to roll out to spur the economy.
“Besides being a proxy to MRT 3 with its partnership with Gamuda Bhd and the HSR, MMC has emerged as one of the preferred contractors to work with the Terengganu state for the ECRL contract.
“In this regard, it will be working with the state-owned construction companies for ECRL jobs, ” it said in a report yesterday.
However, the political realignment at Putrajaya in March last year had caused another change of the ECRL project, as the Perikatan Nasional government wanted to reinstate its original plan of Section C, which involves costly construction of the 17.8km-long Genting Tunnel in Bentong, Pahang.
Meanwhile, Wee announced that the ECRL has been further enhanced by extending the original alignment of 640 km to 665km, encompassing the original 30km which is 24km from Jalan Kastam (Port Klang) to West Port, and 6km from Jalan Kastam to the North Port.

MRT2首阶段完成97% 料8月开始通车载客
(吉隆坡3日讯)捷运2号线(MRT 2)的第一阶段完成度高达97%,预计在今年8月开始通车载客。
交通部长拿督斯里魏家祥对于捷运2号线的第一阶段的准备程度感到十分满意。
他今日巡视捷运2号线的第一阶段的准备进度后,在记者会上如是指出。
魏家祥今日从斯里白沙罗中环站乘搭捷运2号线,前往甘榜峇都站,视察准备程度。
捷运2号线的路线是从桂莎白沙罗站到布城中环站,共计24站,总长57.7公里,整体工程进度为87%,预计在2023年1月开始载客。
在今年8月开放的第一阶段的路线是从桂莎白沙罗站到甘榜峇都站,共计12站,总长17.5公里。
“我相信大马捷运公司的表现,可以在预定日期完工。”
他说,在捷运2号线完工后,紧接著就是捷运3号线的策划。
原本的捷运2号线的造价是393亿5000万令吉,然后前朝政府将价格压低至305亿3000万令吉。
“虽然看起来造价减少90亿令吉,但是其范围也被减少,这些部分也会在未来的施工阶段获得补足。”
他说,捷运2号线接下来有一段工程非常有挑战性,因为需要挖开随道,但已经完工。
