The cement unit price index rose in January (2.6% m-o-m, 9.3% y-o-y), February (6.8% m-o-m, 9.6% y-o-y), March (1.1% m-o-m, 10.2% y-o-y), and April (0.3% m-o-m, 7.7% y-o-y).

The average price of cement (ordinary Portland) rose 1.4% to RM22.81 per 50kg in May 2023 from RM22.50/50 kg in April 2023

But, the major cost of cement production, coal, fell to $140 per tonne, the lowest level since July 2021, down almost 70% from its record high of $457.8 reached in September last year, resulted big leap up in cement profit margin expansion

Question 1
How much was the outstanding construction order book as of 30 June 2022? What are the
key construction projects in hand? As the construction of Gemas-Johor Bahru electrified
double track project, one of the largest construction projects undertaken by the group in
recent years, is at the tail-end, how does the group intend to replenish the order book of the
construction segment?

Question 1– REPLY
The outstanding order book is about RM10.9 billion.
In addition to Gemas, our Group has secured contracts for infrastructure developments
including solar power generation and digital infrastructure for telcos.
Industrial contracts include development, design and construction of data centers, and two
industrial warehouses, where we have the ability to build for clients as well as build-to-rent,
facilitated by a new logistics team to support leasing for mega warehouses.
On the residential property front, we will be embarking on a new residential development in
Kwasa Damansara, and our Construction division handles planning, design and project
management for our Brabazon property development project in the UK

Both the Kwasa Damansara and UK Brabazon property projects are multi-year long term projects which may bring in construction work worth billions of ringgit to YTL.

Potential upsides will be for YTLPower to secure more green data centre jobs which will add to its existing RM7.0 billion job streams secured so far.

Do you know why mcement Q3 profit before tax RM 98m is lower than YTL cement division profit before tax RM 121m? YTL in fact only control about 78% stake in mcement.

Forceful sell down in low volume. How?

Perhaps YTL need to post another sustainable Q result to convince market and built up more confident. In the meantime, wait for coming Q to entitle YTL higher dividend declaration.

Award of MRT3 will be announce anytime soon as tender already open, YTL bid is the lowest at RM 10.8 billion, save RM 1 billion compared to IJM second lowest bid at RM 11.8 billion, just wait for official announcement

Analysts pour cold water on YTL despite putting in the lowest bid for the MRT3 project. If the analysts are correct, then it will be a very bad news.

@hng33, yes I did notice that YTL cement division PBT is higher than MCement PBT despite having a 77% stake in MCement. I think YTL may own stakes in other smaller cement plants and some concrete division that have not been injected into MCement

ChloeTai, I am not aware of any particular bad news for YTL. The current share price weakness is not a big surprise given the poor market sentiment when state elections are around the corner.

Whether or not YTL will bag the MRT3 package at RM10.8bn, nobody knows at the moment. I guess the government has not made a decision yet when focusing on the upcoming state elections. The fact that YTL put in the lowest bid for the above ground package at RM10.8b still gives an advantage to YTL to become the winner, at least the pricing has been made transparent to the public. If the government does not award the package to YTL, it will have to make a good explanation why it does not, either on technical ground or other reasons.

Yup agreed. Just guessing. Maybe YTL able to give the lowest price due to it self is a construction materials manufacturer. Therefore less markup for cement and etc...

I believe all the project bidders will definitely submit tender based on the project requirements. Any additional features or over engineering with extra cost is not justifiable

Francis Yeoh should realized in order to make good profit they can't be continue only being a construction materials manufacturer and supplier. They must involve directly in projects like Sunway and others

Monday hng33: "bought back YTL at 95 sen." "TA is bullish, heading to breakout RM1.00".
I follow to add YTL. (This was where I was trapped)

Wednesday Wahidul: "Touch 0.975, heading towards RM1, so many buyers queuing".
I have the same opinion.

Thursday: Instead of moving towards RM1, it dropped until support level at 0.91.

Friday: please close at green.

"Why poor fundamental company like SCIB can go up for 11 consecutive market days just because of boardroom tussle to remove 3 directors but fundamentally sound companies i.e. YTL, YTLPOWER and MCEMENT are played (pump and dump) by stockists? Really useless local funds.

Chloe, YTL been pushed up from 55c, what are your expectation for YTL price

hng33

20,492 posts

Posted by hng33 > 2023-06-16 09:32 | Report Abuse

Needless to worry at all. You are invested in re-rating stock, with EPS growth forward + dividend, NOT the speculative stock.

YTLP started to move up after Malaysia lifted energy to Singapore policy and momentum accelerated. after record massive EPS growth.

YTL started to move up strongly follow YTLP and leap up after Humeind report massive improvement in cement operation, spill over to its subsidiary Mcement and YTL go up in tandem. Momentum up again after HSR news and reaffirm after record EPS growth.

Therefore, as long as all above catalyst factor remain, share price will sustain elevated and awaiting for next Q result to reinstate its capability on earning growth, declare higher dividend for re-rating to continue upward forward.

We are still in month of June, and currency strength in USD, Pound and SGD continue breaking record high, it will translate into non-operation profit expansion by at least 5%more in next Q due to currency factor alone

hng33

20,492 posts

Posted by hng33 > 2023-06-16 09:45 | Report Abuse

I cannot figure any other stock can benefited most direct from strength in USD (45% Jordan power, 20% Jawa power, YTL cement export market), Pound (Wessex water, UK property development), SGD (Power seraya + geneco + YTL land)

hng33

20,492 posts

Posted by hng33 > 2023-06-16 09:52 | Report Abuse

YTL own YTL cement and 78% Mcement will benefited most in current tumbling coal price. Although coal is USD imported, but price tumbling is far more than strength USD cost. Coal form about 25-30% in cement production, lower coal price and elevated cement selling price locally will give profit expansion in next Q following due to time lag factor in coal price adjustment in its feedstock inventory.

Beside, YTL cement in langkawi is hub to export cement to regional market, Mcement also export cement to Singapore, enjoying currency factor too.

@hng33, YTL also owns numerous hotels, resorts and shopping malls across Australia, Japan, UK, Europe and Singapore, which will benefit a lot from border re-opening and strengthening currencies in SGD, USD, AUD and Yen.
