Negative equity can occur for various reasons, such as a decline in the asset’s value, an increase in the debt’s value, or a combination of both. Negative equity can have negative consequences, such as reducing the net worth of the owner, limiting the ability to borrow more money, or increasing the risk of default or foreclosure.

However, negative equity can also have positive effects, such as lowering the tax liability of the owner, increasing the cash flow of the owner, or creating an opportunity for refinancing or restructuring. Different markets in Asia may have different views and attitudes toward negative equity, depending on their economic, legal, and cultural factors.

Some markets may be more tolerant and supportive of negative equity, while others may be more cautious and critical of negative equity.

For me, CapitalA rise to occasion to meet the national agenda..

Book value is the value of a company’s assets minus its liabilities, as reported on its balance sheet. Book value can be used to measure the net worth of a company, or to compare its market value with its intrinsic value.

However, book value may not always reflect the true or fair value of a company, because it is based on historical costs and accounting methods, which may not capture the current market conditions or the future growth prospects of the company.

Therefore, some traders and investors may rely on book value as a valuation metric, but they may find out that the book value is either inflated or deflated, and that the company is either overvalued or undervalued by the market.

As a trader/investor as long as your P&L is positive, there is nothing to fear.

Maybank give a TP of RM 1.01
In December 2024 HLIB has revised its target price to RM1.40, citing a robust recovery in the aviation sector.

Today our Minister also said "Aviation industry to see robust growth in 2024"

That is good enough for Mabel, so apy that every wang can now fly to meet their loves one this cuming Year of the Dragon..

Benchmarking with Singapore Airline:

For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Singapore Airlines, this is the formula:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.093 = S$3.0b ÷ (S$47b - S$14b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2023).

So, Singapore Airlines has an ROCE of 9.3%. Even though it's in line with the industry average of 9.3%, it's still a low return by itself.

Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 49% more capital is being employed now too. The increasing returns on a growing amount of capital is common amongst multi-baggers and that's why Mabel is impressed.

To sum it up, Singapore Airlines has proven it can reinvest in the business and generate higher returns on that capital employed, which is terrific. Since the stock has only returned 9.6% to shareholders over the last five years, the promising fundamentals may not be recognized yet by investors. Given that, we'd look further into this stock in case it has more traits that could make it multiply in the long term.

As in any business Singapore Airlines does have some risks too. What’s is important for Mabel it continues to generates good Dividend and continue to help Everyone can fly just like Air Asia.

Want to play safe, put your money in FD..

Is CapA cash flow positive????
Repost:

Dec 30, 2023 8:06 AM | Report Abuse

However, on EBITDA basis, it made close to about $ 400 million ++/quarter or about 1.7 billion/year

EBITDA pisitive, is it really so???
Do you know under MFRS 16:

(i) On the Consolidated Income Statement, expenses which were previously included under aircraft operating leases will be replaced by finance costs – lease liabilities and depreciation of right of use asset;

(ii) On the Consolidated Cash Flow Statement, operating lease rental outflows, previously recorded within net cash flow from operating activities, are classified as “net cash flow used in financing activities” for repayment of principal of lease liabilities.

CapA' NUMBER DONT LIE..and it is horrible.

Net current liabialities increase from begining of year
Net current liabilities: RM (8,509,066,000) to as at 30/9/2023
Net current liabilities: RM (12,527,863,000)
Is that a good 9 months for capA?
Will capA not default on the current liabilities in the next 12 months?

As at 31/12/2022 Capital A
Current assets: RM 1,768,954,000
Current liabilities: RM 10,278,023,000
Net current liabilities: RM (8,509,066,000)
Shareholders’ equity RM (5,725,093,000)
Non-controlling interest: RM (3,791,865,000)
Total equity: RM (9,516,958,000)

As at 30/9/2023 Capital A
Current assets: RM 2,072,007,000
Current liabilities: RM 14,599,870,000
Net current liabilities: RM (12,527,863,000)
Shareholders’ equity RM (8,427,155,000)
Non-controlling interest: RM (2,101,925,000)
Total equity: RM (10,529,080,000)

Repost for you to ponder with leases payment of abt RM 700 million and increasing per quarter can capA make any meaningfull profit in 2024?

Quarter end 30/09/23: Cumulative 9 months
RM: RM
Depreciation on right of use assets: (444,404,000): (1,124,591,000)
Finance cost -lease liabilities: (251,274,000): (656,333,000)

CapA is now like a taxi driver, driving a rental car from a taxi company.
How many passengers a taxi driver must picked up to pay for the car rental before he can earned a living?

For capA even last quarter 89% load factor is still a loss making quarter.

Today our Minister said "Aviation industry to see robust growth in 2024". That is good enough for Mabel, so happy that everyone can now fly to meet their loves one this cuming Year of the Dragon..

CAPITALA’s regularisation plans to exit PN17 in the works. The group plans to divest its aviation group to AirAsia X in exchange for shares which will subsequently be distributed back to its shareholders. While Mabel continue to like CAPITALA for being a beneficiary of the recovery in air travel as the pandemic comes to an end, Mabel is mindful of it still being under the PN17 status as CapitalA Number don’t lie and it is horrible. As at 30/9/2023 Capital A:

Current assets: RM 2,072,007,000
Current liabilities: RM 14,599,870,000
Net current liabilities: RM (12,527,863,000)

Non-controlling interest: RM (2,101,925,000)

This translate to -RM 2.00 Book Value and is currently trading at RM 0.83!

Do you know that Domino’s Pizza has negative shareholder equity for years?. Shareholder equity is the difference between total assets and total liabilities. Negative shareholder equity means that the company owes more than it owns. This can happen when a company borrows a lot of money to finance its operations, such as share buybacks and dividends. Domino’s Pizza has been doing this for a long time, and as a result, its total debt has increased from $1.5 billion in 2014 to 3.68 billion in the trailing 12months. Its shareholder equity has decreased from -0.26 billion in 2014 to $-4.85 billion in the trailing 12 months.

Domino’s Pizza has a high market value despite its negative shareholder equity. Market value is the current price of the company’s shares multiplied by the number of shares outstanding. Market value reflects the expectations and sentiments of the investors about the company’s future performance and growth potential. Domino’s Pizza has a high market value because it has been growing its revenue, earnings, and free cash flow consistently over the years. It has also been expanding its global presence and increasing its market share in the pizza industry. Domino’s Pizza has a market cap of $14.37 billion as of January 2024, which is about 3 times its annual revenue of $4.54 billion. Its share price is 412.23 as of January2024, which is about 3.5 times its book value per share of-118.74.

However Domino’s Pizza has positive free cash flow for years. Free cash flow is the amount of cash that a company generates from its operations after deducting the capital expenditures. Free cash flow is an important indicator of a company’s financial health and profitability. It shows how much cash a company has left to invest in growth, pay dividends, or reduce debt. Domino’s Pizza has positive free cash flow because it has a high operating margin and a low capital intensity. It does not need to spend a lot of money on building or maintaining its stores, as most of its sales come from delivery and carryout. Domino’s Pizza has a free cash flow of $362.86 million for the quarter ending September 30, 2023, which is a year-over-year increase. Its free cash flow for the trailing 12 months is $1.06 billion, which is also a year-over-year increase..

Here lies the main difference. Domino’s Pizza customers usually pay for their orders when they place them online or over the phone, and then the payment is processed by the company’s payment system and transferred to the company’s bank account. However, some customers may also pay for their orders when they pick them up from the store or when they receive them from the delivery person, and then the payment is collected by the store or the delivery person and transferred to the company’s bank account.

CapitalA are paid in advance meaning to get from point A to point B. This means that customers pay for the services before they receive them and 2023 is a great year for our CapitalA as it has been reporting narrower and narrower losses. 2024 will be better...

*Summing up*..

Different investors have different risk appetites and return expectations, depending on their goals, time horizon, and personal preferences. Therefore, it is important for each investor to analyse their own situation and choose the investments that suit their risk and reward profile.

Some sources suggest that Domino’s Pizza is a high-risk, high-reward investment, because it has a high valuation, a high debt level, and a high growth potential.

Some sources also suggest that CapitalA is a high-risk, high-reward investment, because it is a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage startups that have a high failure rate, but also a high upside potential..

Just like SIA, CapitalA AirAsia was also paralysed by the pandemic without any revenue. However, unlike SIA with Big Brother Temasek cumming to the rescue, CapitalA took many initiatives to revive and stay afloat without any help from the Malaysian Government. Yes lah..Before the Pandemic, all shareholders were celebrating as shareholders of AirAsia have been showered with 90 sen per share special dividend, which is worth more than RM3bil in total payout. The dividend is equivalent to 34% of dividend yield from the last traded price of AirAsia's shares at RM 2. The year before he showered us with 64 sen Dividends and 12 sens even before that. Do they know capitalA is a PN17 and an insolvent company?
Will capA not default on the current liabilities in the next 12 months?

However, on EBITDA basis, it made close to about RM 400 million ++/quarter or about 1.7 billion/year.

AirAsia amongst world’s safest low cost airlines
SEPANG, 6 January 2024 - AirAsia Group, including medium haul affiliate airlines AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X have been once again confirmed as one of the safest low cost carriers in the world for 2024 by the aviation experts at AirlineRatings.com.

The world’s only airline safety and product rating agency on Wednesday announced its top 20 safest low cost airlines for 2024 among the 385 airlines it monitors.

Factors used to decide the top 20 safest low cost airlines include incident records, fleet age, results of audits conducted by the governing body of aviation - The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), as well as EU banned lists.

This follows the award for AirAsia Group as the top low cost carrier in Asia by AirlineRatings.com in May 2023.

Well from our experiences...AA... Really smooth take-off n landing...my personal experience it's so smooth as silk...I don't know...it landed, until the captain announced, we landed at Changi Airport...what a smooth journey...🤓

Fernandes: To build an airline is tough, to rebuild an airline and build four other businesses, has been the ultimate challenge.

The article is about Tony Fernandes, the founder and CEO of AirAsia, who is planning to retire from the airline business in 2025. It recounts his journey of turning AirAsia from a struggling airline into a leading low-cost carrier in Asia, and his achievements in various fields such as sports, music, and education.

It also highlights some of the challenges he faced, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2014 plane crash, and the bribery allegations. The article praises Fernandes for his vision, innovation, and leadership, and quotes some of his colleagues and friends who admire him. It also mentions some of his future plans, such as launching a digital bank, investing in green technology, and spending more time with his family.

The article concludes by saying that Fernandes will leave behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come

Taxi driver was able to provide more than 100% dividend in total since beginning business.
I have no complain. The last dividend payout was about 90+%. Even GLCs could not afford to payout dividends like a taxi driver. Rotten pickles are everywhere!
Well...those who invested #10 years ago, already almost took back their capital employed!?
Looking forward, probably we expect #20/25% of dividend from its... owner's earnings... it's Fair for shareholders!?
CapitalA has more debts obligations now!?
These 3Q...owners earnings is positive...all financial obligations are settled.
We shall see the next quarter...Feb 28/29, 2024.!?
From its Negative Shareholders Equity scenario...Target Price should be around...@1.48...🤓(If positive Equity...@2.28)!?

Touche geary..

Mabel is totally in line with your thinking..

Fernandes’ journey with AirAsia is packed with inspiring lessons. One key takeaway is the power of perseverance. When Fernandes took over AirAsia, the airline was on the brink of bankruptcy. He faced numerous challenges, including intense competition from established players, lack of funds, and regulatory hurdles. However, he persisted and worked tirelessly to turn the airline around.

Fernandes’ story also emphasizes the importance of innovation and creativity in business. He disrupted the airline industry by creating a new business model that catered to budget travelers. He introduced new technologies, such as online booking systems and self-check-in kiosks, to improve the customer experience.

Another lesson from Fernandes’ journey is the importance of building a strong team. Fernandes surrounded himself with talented individuals (included his shareholders) who shared his vision and passion for the business. He empowered his team to take ownership of their work and contribute to the company’s growth.

..and we the result speak for it's self. We have been rewarded and based on the current sentiment we will be rewarded again..

Net current liabialities increase from begining of year RM (8,509,066,000) to as at 30/9/2023 Net current liabilities: RM (12,527,863,000) and Shareholders’ equity from RM (5,725,093,000) to RM (8,427,155,000)

Guess how long will it take to turn shareholder's equity from negative RM (8,427,155,000) to positive????

Know why capA keep asking for extension to submit the PN17 regularisation plan???

The simple reason is once the PN17 regularisation plan is submitted and accepted by Bursa SC then within one year time of implementation the shareholder's equity must be minimum positive RM 40 million.

To acheive shareholder's equity positive you need debts restructure, capital reduction (to eliminate accumulated losses), share consolidation and capital injection (issuing of new consolidated share)

So even Bursa SC agree to capA request of extending the submitting of PN17 regularisation plan to 30 June 2024, come end June 2024 capA will still request another extension.

12 Jan 2023:
PETALING JAYA: Capital A Bhd CEO Tony Fernandes expects the aviation group to exit the PN17 status, which has been a millstone around its neck, by end of this year.

His expectation is based on optimism of its growth potential this year following a strong rebound in travel demand post-Covid.

The investment holding group that is involved in aviation, logistics, lifestyle and financial services ventures, plans to submit its finalised regularisation plan to Bursa Malaysia as early as February.

“We can be out of PN17, definitely this year, I hope much earlier (than that). All of the consultants are now going through all the work.

SSLee's sharing of CapA's problems should be welcomed, because the matter of is this, most of us who are bullish about CapA's future are trading solely based on sentiment whether we like to admit it or not, including myself. I say trading because it has no financial fundamentals to back is as an investable company, which is why institutions don't put their money in PN17 companies until Bursa has vetted them by lifting that status.
