Citi downgraded the stock to sell from neutral, target price to RM7.20 was not without reason, this was based on petrochemical market 2019/20 outlook and commodities price movement on supply demand.

In near terms if after another 2 quarter report show revenue and profit earning down, price move to RM7.2 is possible.

Today rebound after 3 days heavy sell down is a natural occurrence. EPF and funds manager who know the market trends also would like to offload their share at higher price, retailer will then hold their tickets at high price.

Trade for rebound but near term is still down trend.

Titus, don't chase high if you think you only bought 20% and miss the opportunity, still many opportunity for you to buy at lower price.

i think today up because Philip's margin facilities got approved.....hehe....

Posted by risktransformer > 2019-07-19 13:43 | Report Abuse

Just keep in mind that Citibank is paid by EPF to manage EPF's fund (nobody can deny that fact)..... so Citibank's downgrading of the stock is less credible due to this fact that Citibank is working for EPF. Of course, in the long run it looks like EPF's sell down is not over yet because it has not achieved EPF's target.

Posted by risktransformer > 2019-07-19 13:53 | Report Abuse

This EPF's sell down followed by short periods of technical rebound is bad for people who buy and hold long term but gives great opportunities for people who trade stocks (buy low, average down & then sell higher than average cost).

The answer is yes, I was approved margin 5m, and bought 500k shares of pchem at 7.61. but I don't think that is the reason. Reason is pchem too cheap to ignore, I brought down my average cost which is a very good

Hahaha!! alphaqueen should have given the advise earlier b4 the stock market close..... but very true, should take some profit (sell some like Keyman188.... throw sikit). Anyway, for those who haven't taken profit.... hope Monday the price will move up a bit more for u to take profit (or exit). Like I said, the current situation is bad for people who buy and hold (but good for those who buy and sell).

By Che Wan Badrul Alias - July 19, 2019 @ 1:21pm
KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) plans to invest US$12 billion over the next 20 years to further contribute to parent Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s downstream businesses.

In an exclusive interview here recently, PetChem managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Sazali Hamzah said the allocation involvesd 20 value enhancing projects including mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital participation.

Sazali does not discount PetChem's organic growth in business via research and development (R&D).

When PetChem started 35 years ago, he said the company's focus was on basic chemicals converted from natural gas.

"At that time, specialty chemicals only consisted two to three per cent of our production," he added.

Now that PetChem's isononanol plant within the Pengerang Integrated Complex in Johor is slated to start operation at the end of this year, Sazali foresees earnings from the specialty chemicals business to expand to five per cent next year.

In 20 years, PetChem expects to produce as many as 50 variants of specialty chemicals. Sazali estimates this would boost contribution to 25 per cent of group earnings.

Specialty chemicals are usually used in construction materials, industrial paints and coating, toiletries, healthcare devices, neutraceuticals, automotive and oil and gas.

"We cannot continue to rely entirely on oil and gas reserves when specialty chemicals can be sold at a higher margin and is less exposed to the vagaries of crude oil and gas price fluctuations.

"Currently, PetChem contributes six per cent to Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s earnings. Hopefully, as our business expands over the next 20 years, we can see earnings contribution doubling to between 10 and 12 per cent," Sazali said.

"Our R&D is showing a lot of exciting developments, especially for four projects, one of which is now close to pilot plant stage, before we scale it up to be commercialised. If all goes well in five years, there will be announcements later.”

PetChem has three or four projects that involved mergers and acquisitions that will enhance its value chain in the pipeline.

"I cannot share the details but in the next six or seven years, we may invest US$6 billion, depending on the opportunities available," he said.

As expected, the person like i3lurker will instil fears to investors as the first bullet (using Citibank without basis) already muted. I missed the rebound but I will either enter at bottom next week or if price rallied further, I will only invest when it starts to stabilise. Bite once, twice shy. Why? Coz we have stupid institutional funds influenced by Citibank.

Posted by risktransformer > 2019-07-21 13:34 | Report Abuse

Hehehe..... interesting debate here. For me, if the price go up further next week is good (can sell more) but if the price fall back below RM7.70 again also good (can buy some more to average down).

Posted by risktransformer > 2019-07-21 13:44 | Report Abuse

I don't think EPF is stupid or influenced by Citibank.... EPF and Citibank are working together as partners to press down the price as they wish and later to push up the price as they wish, in the process killing a lot of retail investors/traders. Retail investors/traders losses contribute to huge gains of EPF/Citibank's investment/trading strategies.

I only small potato investor...

Only willing to catch & bet bluechip counters when tremendously dropped from peak price, assuming 25% off...

So fas as I know, all bluechip never die since 1997 Asian Economic Crisis....

Adik ini not like other expert or professional, using apa apa technical skill or analysis tools...just using simply calculation...

Adik ini just invest what I feel entry level more comfortable (normally by batch to go in & will not 1 short into 1 entry level).....

I had been observing all bluechip counters everyday, so now this level (below 7.60) is much more comfortable for me then I go in....

If the market still selling down, I don't mind, just spread the funds & invest again....batch by batch....

Here I can give you example :-

1) Telekom (TM)

2) Airport

3) TNB

4) Genting

5) Genting Malaysia

6) BAT (long waiting below 25.00)

7) Astro (bet below 1.25)

8) Cimb (bet below 5.10)

9) Bursa (stupid miss the boat)

Honest speaking, I saw a lot of members willing to take huge risk to invest or bet the goreng goreng counters with putting so much hope to let counters move up, but not willing to invest in the bluechip when coming down....

Of course all ppl different perception for investment, but we hard earn money, so I think no point to bet super high risk goreng goreng counters with everyday putting so much hope to push up the counters (I saw a lot of counters already sleeping after goreng goreng)....
