Berjaya Food Bhd (KL:BJFOOD) said on Wednesday that it has signed a master franchise agreement that would allow the company to exclusively operate Paris Baguette stores in Brunei and Thailand.

The company has plans to open an unspecified number of stores across both markets by quarter three of 2025, Berjaya Food said in a statement. Paris Baguette, which mainly sells French-inspired bakery products, is the flagship brand of South Korean food company SPC Group.

“The expansion into Brunei and Thailand also reflects commitment to establishing a stronger footprint in underserved markets, tapping into the rising café culture in these nations,” Berjaya Food said.

The latest agreement comes as Berjaya Food pushes for international expansion and growth of other brands, amid pressure on its key Starbucks franchise in Malaysia.

Berjaya Food launched Paris Baguette in the Philippines in April, and its second store in September this year. Berjaya Food currently has eight Paris Baguette stores in Malaysia and two in the Philippines.

The company had also signed an agreement to operate Paris Baguette in Singapore. There are already over 4,000 Paris Baguette stores across 11 countries.

“We are excited to extend Paris Baguette’s reach into Brunei and Thailand, two vibrant markets with growing demand for premium café experiences,” said Datuk Sydney Quays, chief executive officer of Berjaya Food.

Berjaya Food is also exploring “new opportunities to introduce other international brands under its portfolio to global markets” as part of a broader expansion strategy, the company said without elaborating further.

Current portfolio of Berjaya Food includes Starbucks Coffee, Kenny Rogers Roasters, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

Aren’t Jewish Israelis colonizers, and isn’t violence against them justified in the name of decolonization?

No. Calling Jews living in their own homeland “colonizers” is part of an effort to dehumanize them, strip away their rights, and justify violence and the horrific October 7 massacre by Hamas.
Israel is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. Any other narrative erases 3,000 years of their history and identity. Historical and archeological records show that Jews developed a unique civilization in this region over 3,000 years ago, and have maintained deep ties to it since.
It is possible for more than one group to have indigenous claims to the same land.
There is nothing that could possibly justify the October 7 massacre by Hamas – neither the existence of Israel nor any Israeli policy or action can justify intentionally murdering whole families, taking toddlers and the elderly hostage, rape, or massacring hundreds of people at a music festival.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 5): The Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali, expressed deep regret over the recent commotion at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL), stressing that such actions do not align with Palestinian culture or ethics.

He assured that the Malaysian government and the embassy are fully committed to addressing the issue and offering support to those affected.

“The issue is under discussion with the Malaysian authorities. I am truly saddened by what happened.

“This is not our ethics and goes against our culture. The government of Malaysia and the Palestinian embassy are doing our best to help,” he told Bernama here on Sunday.

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) confirmed on Sunday that the commotion involving Palestinians at WTKL on Saturday (Jan 4) afternoon stemmed from their desire to expedite their return to Palestine.

In a statement, the MAF said the 5pm incident was managed effectively, with no fights or injuries reported. However, there was some minor damage to the furniture in the facility.

Saturday’s incident was the second of such reported. A similar incident occurred in October last year.

On Aug 16, 2024, Malaysia brought 127 Palestinians, including 41 injured individuals affected by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, to its shores for medical treatment.

The injured were treated at Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, while their relatives were accommodated at WTKL.
