SHAH ALAM: The world's top glove maker, Top Glove Corp Bhd is planning to manufacture condoms for the export market with an initial investment of RM30mil.

Executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai said this was part of Top Glove's diversification to expand its business.

"It's a good business to go in as in terms of price-earnings valuations it's very high," Lim said on the sidelines of the company's third quarter results briefing for the financial year 2017 on Tuesday.

Lim said Top Glove intends to build the factory on a five acre site in Klang.

The RM30mil investment will be for building the plant and machinery. It will kick off production with 20 lines first.

The company is targeting to set up the plant a year from now.

karex market share will be dropping with new competitor... yet top glove is one of the biggest biz partner in medical industry... where will karex position itself? if karex still dont change its strategy i think it would buyout by topglove

karex recent performance mostly hit by the surge of raw mat price. introduction of new competitors will not give too much of the impact as karex is eyeing on worldwide market and they are in the leading position. even top glove venture into the condom market, they only can chip in after plant is fully setup. that is a year from now.

I think the last I read is 6b capacity. Wow, topglove now invest want to get 1b capacity, 17% of Karex using RM30million.

Sell now, the price might drop 1.60 and below. Rubber price has increase first half of this year compare to last year and it increase the cost of raw material and reduce the profit.
