Ann Almeida joins Axiata board

KUALA LUMPUR: Ann Almeida has joined the Axiata Group Bhd
Board of Directors.

She is the Group Managing Director, Human Resources and Corporate
Sustainability of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd Group (HSBC Group).

In a statement, Axiata said Ann will join the board as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective January next year.

The appointment is part of Axiata's ongoing efforts to strengthen its board.

At the same time, the move is to ensure that international and gender diversity at the board level continues.

Penang-born Ann, holds a MA (Economics) degree from the
University of Cambridge, in addition to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Imperial College.

Axiata's Chairman Tan Seri Azman Haji Mokhtar said her invaluable
experience, which extends not only to the Asian region but also globally, will be an important addition to the board.

"We are happy to welcome Ann as the first female board member to the fold," he added.

Axiata is one of Asia's largest telecommunication company.-- BERNAMA

Do we need so many people in the board? Axiata is only a holding company. The constituent companies have their own board. The number of people in management should also be lean, because the operating companies have full set of people. What synergy the people at axiata have cooked up across the subsidiaries? Cheap calls between them. What else?
