You should calculate the return by multiplying the gains or losses, not adding/subtracting them.. This calculation is very flawed as a 50% loss in a year and then 50% gain in the following year would still mean a 25% total loss, compared with a 10% loss and then followed by a 10% gain will break even.

example, start with 1000, lose 50%, becomes, 500, then earn 50%, become 750. Still lose 25%(250) from the 1000. beginning

next yr it goes back with RM100K portfolio again. doesnt matter ya.
