Apple told suppliers of iPhone X components to reduce shipments, according to Taiwan-based insiders. Only 40% of the expected amount is shipped for the initial launch of the new Apple flagship, the sources confirmed. Some manufacturers, though, still struggle to cope even with the new, lowered orders.

ok snoopy...will study past quarters.....so if I assume it well, there is no official statement by Vis that they are using build to order

if so, can I point to EG? inventory also building up, build to order guarantee potential sales?

my noob accounting knowledge tells me that sales is recognized once it is earned.

at what stage is it considered 'earned'?

it's when there is a transaction between willing buyer and seller.

so, since vis seems it best to call these inventories as 'potential sales', my initial conclusion is that they have secured zero sales for these, at this point of time.

is t legally bound for the customer to purchase these months after its initial agreement? is there room for cancellation?

but, if it is build to order, the game will change.

Vis received customer order for delivery at certain time, so Vis proceeds to manufacture these and sell it to them. why is it still sitting as inventories? accounting dating problem?

at what point exactly is sales materialised? is it upon payment? no. it is upon delivery or product to th customers..

so....yeah.....itu lah potential sales. next Q will become actual sales when the product is delivered, regardless whether it is on cash or credit.

but again, every company can claim their inventories are potential sales. but isn't inventory pulling up one major sorry of every investor?

still sit in the inventories , possible because the raw mat need lead time ( vendor produce time + shipping time + processsing time + blablabla time). some raw material need longer time to delivery. they can't really wait till last minutes to buy the item.

in that case, is show that management have a good inventories management and reduce inventories cost and increase warehouse spacing

book to order make sense, normally company to exercise good inventory control, raw mat or finished goods, if create more finished goods but and wait for customer to buy it, then seems not a good choice. company like apple, then is possible, because they can't wait customer to order only they build (some shorter time maybe they can do like this). book to sell normally is for customer that can't wait or they refer back their old sales history to produce.

ya....so Tan Hong, if i say there's no 100% certainty that vis is applying build-to-order, can my statement be debunked?

Tan Hong

this u need to go to AGM ask already. normally statement won tell is book to order or book to sell. i also don know. but, logically, they won build and sell without customer order. manufacturing machine unlike manufacturing shampoo, and unlike houses, there is a possible book to sell if their machine is very standard and not very high cost. tesla also book to order, proton not sure la lol..but i think they book to sell more lol

@hstha, every stock people buy and sell. don like sell or if you like it then buy lol. each stock sure got people see potential , some see bad. u can't take sam eng to compare, sam eng net profit is dropping each year.

VIS last year earn net profit qtr 1,2 and 3 is 2149mil, annually total is 4296mil
VIS this year earn net profit qtr 1,2 and 3 is 4205mil, very close to last year whole year sales.

base on 2149 over 4205mil .. over 95% sales net profit increase .. think about it.

so, very depend on individual. obviously VIS is seasonally, not every qtr will good. what is see is global demand for electronic sector are increasing, there have a bigger pizza to share lol ...
