PNB selling to pay dividends

ASB is the biggest seller. It holds 4 billion Maybank shares and was recently allocated over 30 million DRP shares at RM8.28 each.

Selling spree. Let it drop to 8.50 or 5.80 opps**

Posted by stocksyndicate > 2022-06-01 16:01 | Report Abuse

PNB is the largest shareholders in Maybank and SAPNRG now classified under PN17. As major shareholders in maybank they are kinda abusing they voting rights to lend substantial huge amounts of loans to support a rubbish company

"Selling spree. Let it drop to 8.50 or 5.80 opps**"
No more RM5.80 as the robot which constantly bleeped out "Maybank would soon drop to RM5.80" over the last several months has been sent for repair. Hopefully when it returns, it will bleep out "Maybank will soon rise to RM15.80", just to make every small investor happy.

Even at RM9 a share, Maybank still provides better returns than EPF. If you keep money in the banks, better to withdraw most of it and invest in Maybank.

I don't think maybank annualized total return is better than public bank. Public bank total return has surpassed maybank a lot with share price + dividend. Maybank only got dividend advantage but the price appreciation is just steady nothing change.

"I don't think maybank annualized total return is better than public bank............"
Maybank is trading at a PE of 12.74 versus Public Bank's 15.74 and a dividend yield of 6.5% versus Public Bank's 3.3%. Logically, companies with higher dividend yields should also command higher PEs. Should investors decide one day that Maybank should trade at a PE higher than Public Bank, then there is a lot of room for its share price to go up.

Posted by Value Investor Coo1eo > 2022-06-06 14:43 | Report Abuse

There is a reason why PB's PE is higher than MB. End of the day, MB is a GLC and will take on deals and make top level appointments that are not at the shareholders interest. If you compare the ROE and NPL of MB vs PB you will know why PB commands the premium valuation.
Anyways, if PE goes up, DY will come down...MB's has to max out on dividend because of PNB/ASB and this means very little is left to reinvest in the business and grow future earnings. DRP also dilutes shareholder value. So if you are pure income investor, then this is a good place, but do not expect MB to give you capital gains. Contrary, when there is a crisis or correction, MB share always shows a sharp pull back to around RM7..or lower. So if you can accept that, then this is again a good place.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2022-06-06 22:02 | Report Abuse

I know that PB has always commanded a "premium valuation" over MB and I also know the reasons.. This has existed for decades. Unless this "premium valuation" widens, which is not likely, I believe MB is still a better bet considering its far superior dividend yield.

Posted by Value Investor Coo1eo > 2022-06-07 08:35 | Report Abuse

Just for dividends, yes. However, be mindful that if there is a correction, you will lose much more than all the dividends you earned. and that is a fact...you can track the price in 2008 and 2020...how sharply it fell.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2022-06-07 10:35 | Report Abuse

"be mindful that if there is a correction, you will lose much more than all the dividends you earned."
You are assuming that I would cling on to my Maybank shares irrespective of the share price it has spiked to. I would call myself a silly investor instead of a prudent investor.
"you can track the price in 2008 and 2020...how sharply it fell."
Maybank fell to RM3.60 in 2009 and RM7.00 two years ago. Public Bank was trading at around 40% of Maybank's share price then. In the run up to any GE, Maybank should perform better than Public Bank.

Dividend wise I rather dump into EPF than MBB. No worries yahoo

Dividendwise I rather dump into EPF. Than tiger bank . No worries yahoo

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2022-06-07 16:45 | Report Abuse

Stormkking, EPF derives most of its profit from its overseas investments and as you know, the US and Europeans stock markets have been faring badly this year. Hence EPF is unlikely to pay its members 6.1% dividends again this year. If you are not greedy and are content with a return of around 10% annually, then Maybank could be a good investment.

Without carrying out an analysis and you claim again and again and again that Maybank would drop to RM5.80 soon, how do you expect people to trust you? I thought you have learnt a lesson already but no. Be careful, if you continue with your antics your count could be suspended again.

You don't have to trust me. I am not obligated to tell you.
Suspension is not new to me and I don't lose sleep over it.

Defiant to the end! Post a few more "RM5.80 coming soon" to show that you don't care about suspension.

Cslee1215....YES! if you buy at current price, after 4 months, you are paying only about 8.50 net

.....buying at 8.50 this year, is attractive, for next 2-3 years recovery play.
