Dividend yield 6.5% only slightly higher than EPF and ASNB payout but need to take risk of capital depreciation of 5 -10%. Worth it or not?

ASM currently pays 4.5%
....for those who pass their Mathematics, 6.5 vs 4.5 is 144%
....unless you are a senior citizen, you cannot make withdrawal from EPF after top up....
...even if you are a senior citizen, you can only top up 100k each year.

Maybank paid 66.5 sen dividend in 2021 and closed the year at 8.30

.......paid 58 sen in 2022 and closed the year at 8.70

.....paid 59 sen in 2023 and closed the year at ???

....take out your calculator and do the maths on percentage gain for the past 3 years if you have bought at 2020.

People who count small small numbers do not understand "percentage" ...haha

If your returns on your 1M is 4.5%, you get 45,000
...if your returns is 6.5%, you get 65,000
....the difference of 2% for 1m is 20,000 each year, understand??

...not everyone count small small numbers, that's why many rich uncles and aunties hold Maybank in their portfolio.

At current price your 2% is rm20k. Am talking about the risk of 5% to 10% capital loss that comes along with it.

I agree with stkoay on the return percentile calculation. A smart investor will look deeper into the return instead of the surface number. Anyway, all investment come with risks except placing money in bank. One must have the appetite to digest risks once start investing in equity market.

Even though placing fund in bank also comes with limited risk. Remember bank only insure one's fund up to a maximum of RM250k? Any amount above that threshold is your risk to bear.

Maybank is a good company to invest for long term. Its profit and dividend payout over the past 10 years of so are commendable as compare to other listed companies. Spreading the risk depend on one's investment objective. No one single model suits all. Stick to what strategy one is comfortable with.

MAYBANK is expected to demonstrate operational resilience whilst sustaining its position as the leading bank in terms of market share. We believe MAYBANK’s ability to provide the most sustainable returns via its consistent market leading dividend yields (7%−8%) warrants further accumulation of its shares.

Positive and negative points from the article on the forecast for Malaysian firms in 2024:

**Positive Points:**
1. **Earnings Growth**: Corporate Malaysia is expected to see an uptick in earnings, with analysts predicting a strong finish for the FBM KLCI in 2023 and further growth in 2024.
2. **Forward Earnings Targets**: Maybank IB Research sets an optimistic end-2024 FBM KLCI target at 1,610 points, based on 13.5 times forward earnings.
3. **Improving Core Earnings**: The ratio of earnings misses-to-beats has improved, indicating stronger core earnings delivery.
4. **Excluding Petrochemicals and Plantations**: Excluding these sectors, the earnings growth for 2023 could be as high as 15.4%.
5. **Stable Political and Economic Outlook**: A stable political environment and effective implementation of macro blueprints are viewed as key catalysts for growth.
6. **Strong Sector Performance**: Utilities, telecommunications, consumer discretionary, construction, real estate, financial services, conglomerates, and healthcare sectors are showing positive trends.

**Negative Points:**
1. **Sector Distortions**: Significant distortions were observed in the petrochemicals, plantations, and glove sectors due to declines in average selling prices.
2. **Mixed Results Across Sectors**: Automotive, glove, and healthcare sectors performed well, but media, technology, and plantation sectors faced shortfalls.
3. **Uncertain Timing for Market Reversal**: The potential market turning point, influenced by factors like inflationary pressures and US bond yields, remains hard to predict.
4. **Earnings Decline Forecast for 2023**: HLIB Research projects a slight earnings decline of 0.3% for the FBM KLCI in 2023 before a rebound in 2024.

If Maybank reports earnings per share of not less than 80 sen next February and declares a final dividend of between 32 to 35 sen a share, then it should easily climb up to RM10

Total volume traded on the day ASB sold 20M was only 14M.
How can they sell 20M in the market, must be off market deal....
....so, there was also a big buyer to buy from them.

ASB and EPF has been locking in Realized gain for their dividend closing at the end of this month....dividend declared can only be from Realized Gain and not Marked to Market gain, thus the current selling....it's for their book closing.
