https://www.nst.com.my/business/corporate/2024/08/1098702/banking-sector-soared-while-tech-disappointed-2q-earnings-tally

According to the firm, Maybank, RHB Bank, AmBank, and Public Bank exceeded expectations.
"Following our recent upgrade of bank earnings across the board, there could be upside potential to our KLCI earnings forecasts," it said in a research note today.

CIMB Securities maintained the end-2024 KLCI target of 1,728 points, based on a target price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 16 times, which is one standard deviation above its five-year mean P/E.

"We will be reviewing our KLCI valuation model post-results season to reflect the higher bank earnings, which will likely be positive for overall earnings growth," it said.

Maybank rebounds fast. It dipped below RM10.60 at one stage. Should close above RM10.70 today.

I don't support Harimau Bank because of sexual harassment GATAL kes ongoing since 2021 !!

Sexual harassment incident that sparks picketing at Maybank branches nationwide can be ‘a racial time bomb’
Author: savemalaysia | Publish date: Thu, 29 Aug 2024, 10:00 PM

AN industrial discord is brewing between the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) and the Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) management with widespread “spirited picketing” having been staged at numerous branches of the bank nationwide after office hours (6pm to 7pm) since Monday (Aug 26).

Although there were numerous issues raised by the bank’s NUBE-affiliated staff, the key trigger is believed to be that of a female staff from the Maybank Bercham branch in Ipoh who was allegedly bullied, intimidated and ultimately suspended on Aug 20 for having reported incidents of sexual harassment against her.

Diversifying across several banks is a smart approach, especially when focusing on dividend yields. This strategy can help spread risk and take advantage of the strengths of different institutions. Here are the ranking of Mabel's Banks based on their latest quarterly results (Q2 2024 for most):

*Revenue*

Maybank: MYR 14.92 billion
CIMB: MYR 5.6 billion
BIMB: MYR 590.2 million

*Earnings (Net Profit)*

Maybank: MYR 5.02 billion
CIMB: MYR 1.96 billion
BIMB: MYR 137.2 million

*Dividend*

Maybank: 29 sen per share
CIMB: 27 sen per share
BIMB: 4.22 sen per share

Happy Merdeka Every One!

(Aug 31): Global investors are boosting exposure to Indonesia and Malaysia on bets the two markets will benefit more than their developing-nation peers as the US Federal Reserve (Fed) looks set to embark on monetary easing.

Exchange-rate watchers see likely further weakness in the greenback giving emerging-market currencies more wind in their sails. With foreign currency holdings at banks in Malaysia and Indonesia near a record according to data compiled by Bloomberg, more support is seen coming when exporters convert their dollars into local currencies.

Southeast Asia is “undervalued, under-invested and under-researched, which means a lot of alpha”, said John Foo, the founder of Valverde Investment Partners Pte Ltd. It’s “at a new beginning as global allocators position back in the region”, he added.

Historical data shows that after the slump in September, US stocks tend to experience a relatively strong rebound in the following fourth quarter. Since 1990, the win rates for US stocks in October, November, and December have been as high as 65%, 71%, and 76%, respectively, with gains exceeding 1% in each month. This suggests that accumulating cash and buying fundamentally strong stocks during market downturns could be a viable strategy.

Generally, in a lower interest rate environment, the investment value of sectors with high dividends such as banks, utilities and consumer staples become more prominent. In the face of potential market volatility, stocks with stable dividend growth and high free cash flow yields in these sectors also have stronger defensive attributes. If their valuations are relatively low, the margin of safety will be higher. So if you expect more volatility in September than usual, it's time to sell offensive stocks and buy defensive stocks.

Cheers Everyone!

You are probably also hoping for the free Tesla model 3 and complementary champagne breakfast when you sell?

You can gauge the likely outcome for the share price at the dividend announcement date and ex-date by looking at historical end of trading day share price - if you can't do that in i3 you can do it in MalaysiaStock.biz

One thing to bear in mind is that this dividend appears to be different in that the share price has dropped significantly from its high on the day the dividend was announced and hasn't (yet) got back there.

The share price may have been over-cooked on "irrational euphoria" (Alan Greenspan), well irrational is over the top, "exuberant euphoria" may be a better term. Everyone was really talking up the results prior to the announcement, the results weren't bad but possibly the expectation was higher. Certainly a disappointing dividend given the better results.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 9): UOB Global Economics & Markets Research said expectations for imminent loosening of US Federal Reserve monetary policy will encourage reallocation of global flows towards emerging markets in Asia, including Malaysia, given the macro resilience of the region.
