AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail reportedly stated the airline will consider commencing services between Japan and the US West Coast with A330neo aircraft, due for delivery from 2020 (aviationwire.jp/Nikkei/impress.co.jp, 30/31-Jan-2019). Mr Ismail reportedly said the A330neo will have the range to reach Los Angeles and San Francisco from Japan. The airline currently operates Kuala Lumpur-Osaka-Honolulu service.

AirAsia X said load factor on its inaugural Taiwan Taoyuan-Osaka Kansai service averaged 96%, adding forward bookings in the near future are almost at full capacity (ETtoday, 31-Jan-2019). As previously reported by CAPA, the carrier launched four times weekly Kuala Lumpur-Taiwan Taoyuan-Osaka Kansai service on 30-Jan-2019. Service operates with A330-300 aircraft.

I have been trying to understand the wild swing of oil price because this will determine the profitability of AAX...

I expected the WTI futures price would be down be below USD40-USD45 per barrel considering the oversupply situation and Trump was eager to ease the oil price... once it did touched USD 45 , and Trump sanctioned Venezuela and Iran; and it seems USA thinks that 45 is very low for oil price, and from the pattern, some fund supported/purchased oil whenever it goes down between 1% and 2%.

Uncle Sam public words set the oil price movement up and down.. Few contradictory statements means that he wants the price to be in the range of USD 50. That is not difficult to understand. USA is now the world biggest producer of oil. And their oil came from shale field. The cost of production of shale gas is around USD 50. So, for USA to continue benefit from production of oil, the price has to be more than USD 50.

There is only one way for the price to move below USD 40. First, let it float to the demand and supply forces. Second, keep Trump mouth shut, and no new sanction is applied to new country.Third, market forces let the price move down and, the "long" fund will face margin calls and release their position.

So, now what does USD 50 / barrel means for AAX ? Of course we can see better profitability compared to the last two quarters.

Will be good, at least for this quarter, check the low oil price and rising ringgit between december and Feb. Those throwing are speculators flowing with the current oil price. When oil price low, they come here. When oil price rise, they go sapura.
