The deal is based on Ophir share 202.7 dated Oct24, now it share is only worth 180. based on current share price conversion each Salamander share is only worth 103...hahaha

dun think salamander shareholders will take it up..... ophir's price is around 115pence; whereas salamander's price has topped above 110 in the last 3 months...... just a matter of waiting till oil price goes up again, and it should be above 110. dun see much incentive to take the offer...... only attractive if u take current situation of oil global downtrend
sona's price was based on pre-global downtrend, is more attractive to salamander's shareholders
my two cents......

Who wants to take up a share swap when Sona is giving cash.

Posted by workworkwork > 2014-11-21 16:00 | Report Abuse

Condition. unless sona deal not on:

As announced on 21 July 2014, Salamander has entered into an agreement (the "SONA SPA") under which Sona Petroleum Berhard ("SONA") would acquire an effective 40% working interest in the B8/38 concession (containing the Bualuang oil field) and the surrounding G4/50 concession, both located in the Gulf of Thailand, via the sale of certain shares in Salamander Energy (Bualuang) Limited (the "SONA Transaction"), pursuant to the terms of the SONA SPA. Any formal offer by Ophir would, if made, be conditional upon the SONA Transaction not proceeding.

Brent steadies above US$78 a barrel
Publish date: Fri, 21 Nov 01:04
LONDON: Brent crude oil steadied above US$78 a barrel yesterday as reports that oil producers would agree to cut output next week offset weak economic data from China and Europe.

Ministers from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries will meet in Vienna on November 27 to decide how to respond to a collapse in oil prices that have fallen more than 30 percent in five months.

Brent was up 25 cents at US$78.35 a barrel by 1315GMT after closing 37 cents down in the previous session. US crude was down 15 cents at US$74.43 a barrel.

Oil prices have come under intense pressure over the last few months as North American shale oil production of high quality, light oil has overwhelmed demand at a time of lacklustre economic growth in many parts of the world.

"We've had disappointing data from China and Europe, and US crude inventories are high, so there's plenty of supply, but tepid demand," said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets. Reuters

Salamander Energy and Ophir Energy have agreed the proposed terms of a deal which would see Ophir takeover Salamander.

The two companies say that the move had “compelling strategic logic,” including a strong balance sheet, enhanced operating capability across the firm’s core operating geographies of Africa and South East Asia, and expertise across key technical and commercial functions.

we all have sc to thank for their lack of usefulness. can we lodge a formal complaint on their inefficiency in their handling of this matter? 2 over months for an approval, this is ridiculous
