A berthing container vessel made contact with WMSB’s two Ship-to-Shore cranes on 8 November 2019. As a safety measure, WMSB has closed two berths to assess the damages.

WMSB has a total of 20 container berths and 67 Ship-to-Shore cranes. The temporary berths closure is not expected to have a material impact on the overall container operations as terminal handling of containers at all other berths continue as usual. The incident is also not expected to have any material effect on the earnings of Westports.

Westports Holdings Bhd disclosed a collision of a berthing container vessel with two ship-to-shore cranes at Westports in Port Klang on Nov 8, 2019. The company has closed two berths to assess damages and is currently investigating the contributing factors that led to the incident. Westports said “the container vessel concerned and affected assets have insurance coverage”.

How bad can a cargo entry port be? Even during March and April at height of CMO. MITI have to allowed cargo movement out from port once a week at least . Storage were full and congested .
Export movement were going on too for medical , essentials and electrical goods. ( those with MITI approval were operating . As long as there is economic activities , Ports are in biz.

Three cargo inspection scanners at Westports, a multi-cargo terminal in Port Klang, were revealed to not be functioning for nearly a year, which may have left the door open to smugglers,.... lol. Understood.

Supply chain disruption definitely had an impact on the container volume last quarter. If we see improvement in the numbers, this can be a strong buy with potential breakout. But the stock has consistently underperformed for years.
