Automotive sector in Malaysia is not expected to do well in the near to medium term for the following reasons:
1) Banks are being more stringent in lending. 2) Interest rates expected to go up. 3) Economy shaky causing many people to delay their buying decision. 4) Political uncertainties. 5) Fierce competition for market share. 6) Devaluation of currency causing rise in cost of sales.
Mazda will have to start offering higher rebates to entice customers to make their buying decision. This will reduce profitability going forward.
For example, Proton is offering almost 15% rebates of up to RM9,268.00 on their Iriz 1.6:
