I look into quarter report of HRC and Lionind. I think at most we can try to calculate/predict the operation profit. What is very difficult to predict is others losses sometime I suspect the management is playing with the account.
I really sympathy with OTB despite his hard working and doing a lot of research the quarter result remain unpredictable.

As a thought experiment, think in collective level, not individualistic. So multiply yourself by a factor of 1000. You have so many people trying to predict the next qtr result of steel companies, with more or less similar intelligence, where the odds of guessing right no better than 60%, not to mention guessing it right doesn't guarantee profit since your prediction has to be non-consensus, and throw in all the influences, macro, psychological, biases, daily share price etc. Basically everyone trying to outsmart everyone in an unknowable environment i.e the unpredictability of qtr result from large element of luck and nonlinear complexity.

You can probably make money, probably, but I just don't see how average investors can make money in this kind of situation. If you think you can, you're either really good or overconfidence to the tilt.

Your "exceptional item" is not the same as mine. Yours is a provision for indemnity, and mine is the gain in disposal of an associate mentioned in the footnotes.

You know creative accounting?

Major shareholders can choose to write off bad debt/ soured investment/ obsolete stock/ goodwill/ vss etc at their convenient and comfortable time.

They can also choose to incorporate Parkson P/L as subsidiary because WC exercises controlling and management decision, or simply just as an associate company, to their advantage.
Clear cut example was Lion Corp when it turned nobody's child, together with Megasteel nightmare P/L account.

Clearly impairment in Parkson investment must be made sooner or later.
If it was done at last QR, writing off 650 million from P&L account, surely Monday will have two limit down..............

After I highlighted so much adverse publicity on LICB, LICB price still go up?
It falls back to a SPM Level Exam question on Supply/ Demand.

Just like Jaks, if KYY buys, Jaks moves north.
When KYY stop buying, Jaks tanks.
When KYY selling (forced sale or otherwise), Jaks goes holland.

Jaks has been drifting lower and lower as KYY selling slower and slower.

LionIndustries is no exception.
KYY buys, LICB soars.
KYY stop buying, LICB tanks.
KYY selling on Monday, LICB goes holland.

Nothing new.
Simple economics of SPM level.
All demand previously were artificially, meaning by market operator KYY with some machai following behind.
If you are one of the machai, be sensitive and sell when KYY stop buying.
Clear your position when KYY starts to sell, even with slightest shadow of doubt and you should have cleared all.

Investment in Parkson was not impaired in last QR.
380 million TNB bill (now should be more) owed by LionCorp still find no solution even moratorium after moratorium by WC.
TNB CEO must ask for cash advance before power to be supplier by LCB substitute, or it will again owed by hundreds of million with no intention to pay.

History repeated too many times under able leadership of WC, starting with Lion Flagship company Amsteel Corp Bhd, to Lion Corp, to Lion Diversified, along the way with Megasteel, Amsteel Securities, all Parade Shopping Malls. They are having meeting in holland, waiting to welcome Parkson Reatil Asia, Parkson Retail Group Ltd, and Parkson Holding Bhd......

We come here to read what you said about lionind earning potential. The just released result good or bad, KC said no good because minus exceptional item it become zero. Future eye, probability and otb said can be good later because of HBI. Ks55 caution something about the impairment, Stockraider said about uncle koon, halite said uncle's intention is good but too honest. Nowadays it is not easy to cheat lah, if not the kampung malay would not had voted UMNO out in the election.

"One thing is certain, the city that is going to be built cannot be sold to foreigners".

Further he added “we are not going to give visas for people to come and live here. Our objection (towards this project) is because it was built for foreigners, not built for Malaysians.

Much as I respect the Prime Minister, I feel that he has not only spoken out of turn but also wrongly on this matter.

4. The may take the malay taxis, grabs, durian etc loh....!!

If they stay they buy car, buy groceries, visit doctors....did give economic activities loh....!!

Well, I have no comment on this comment as I do not like to boast around in the internet space. But just something to ponder about; are you good at making money in the stock market?

All profits, whether operating or net profits are difficult to predict. It is difficult for retail investors, it is also difficult for professional analysts who have all the data, talk to management etc. Even it is difficult for management to predict.

Management can and often manage profit, but normally to make it good, rather than the other way around.

That is the theme of this article.
