KPJ’s valuation appears to be attractive again, Reiterate OP. The group is confident that start-up costs from new hospital openings will be absorbed by: (i) incremental ramp-ups from earlier openings, and (ii) steady contributions from matured hospitals. As indication, start-up losses are only seen in KPJ Perlis and KPJ Bandar Dato Onn. Earnings growth is expected to come from narrower losses and earnings from hospitals built 2-3 years ago. We like KPJ as (i) start-up costs from new openings will be absorbed by incremental ramp-ups from earlier openings and steady contributions from matured hospitals and (ii) the stock is currently trading at 20% and 40% discounts compared to historical average of 25.5x and regional peers of 35x, respectively.

We maintain our BUY call on KPJ Healthcare with a lower FV of RM1.15 (RM1.18 previously) based on 23x PE FY21F EPS. We continue to like KPJ Healthcare for: (1) its bright long-term prospects in the private healthcare sector; (2) vast network of hospitals in Malaysia; and (3) positive long-term earnings growth led by capacity expansions.

Crossover has happened folks, it will breach 0.90 mark and head back higher. This is a hospital stock. For the past three years, it has spent time building its new branches. These were ready about last year and now with this Covid 19, demand for "trustable" hospitals like this private group will go up. The stock has been oversold for sometime and in consolidation phase. If it breaks its first resistance of 0.90, it should have a good chance breaching higher up to 1.04

18-5-2020 AllianceDBS is retaining its Buy call on KPJ HEALTHCARE but with a lower target price of RM1.10 compared with its previous target price of RM1.35 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It said the RM1.10 was after its earnings revisions and rolling forward its valuation base to FY21.

At RM1.10, this represents a valuation of 27 times FY21 earnings per share (EPS), which is in line with its historical mean valuation.

“We like the stock as its serves as a pure play in the Malaysian healthcare space which is on a secular growth trend driven by a rising and ageing population, and increasing household income,” it said.

AllianceDBS Research said KPJ has not been spared from operational disruptions caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Since the government’s implementation of the MCO on March 18, the group has scaled down its operations to comply with safety measures.

“We understand that inpatients were advised to postpone their appointments, while outpatients and visitors were advised not to visit the hospital except for emergency treatments.

“In fact, some patients/visitors have voluntarily postponed visits for healthcare treatments or medical checkups due to fears of being infected by Covid-19,” it said.

AllianceDBS Research pointed out to the lower patient visitations and bed occupancy rates. The main adverse impact on these restrictions is reduced patient visitations.

KPJ is focusing on emergency cases and deferring non-emergency cases. This has resulted in reduction of its bed occupancy rate to about 30% since the implementation of the MCO, which is substantially below the group’s normal occupancy rate of more than 60%.

AllianceDBS Research said the implementation of MCO has delayed the construction of two new hospitals, namely KPJ Kluang and KPJ Kuching, which was planned to open in April and June.

With COVID-19 cases increasing the strain on Malaysia’s public healthcare system, KPJ has catered about 200 operating beds across its hospital networks (3,200 total operating beds as at end 2019) for public use, should the need arise.

“We understand that there will be some form of compensation by the government if these facilities are utilised. Nonetheless, we have not inputted additional compensation by the government into our forecasts at this juncture.

“We expect the COVID-19 pandemic to be contained within 1H2020. As such, we do not expect the public sector to utilise these facilities,”

Kpj Healthcare very reliant on foreigners come here to visit our hospital and healthcare system, since there is PKP and PKPB, her price never go too far
Kpj hospital sangat sangat bergantung kpd pelancong pelancong asing datang meminta rawatan di Malaysia, oleh sebab PKP dan PKPB masih belum dimansuhkan, harganya tak berganjak banyak. Pihak EPF sedang mengutipnya sedikit demi sedikit.
Kami pelabur pelabur masih menunggu ... PKPB utk dibuka

Looks like that KNN PBB analyst Sui Li is one useless amoi man, Put's a TP of 1.20 for KPJ when KPJ has been falling down like a constipated counter. You think your grandfather going to buy your idea for 1.20 ka ?

Did a check on her and realised that she is an Analyst who covers the health care sector.

Valuing the healthcare sector is pretty straight forward and even that she can't do it well lol

Passed CFA level 1 ? lol a clearly example of any tom, dick and harry being able to clear the cfa exam.

Some of this research houses are really a joke, glad our fund doesn't employ such people. The only 2 good analyst from PBB who i know is their head of research, he has been an old friend of mine from the industry and his knowledge of the market is impressive. the second analyst who is good is their economist. Her knowledge about the industry and market is unquestionable. Other only know how to pusing cerita and talk kok

Don't get me started with the guys from the other research houses

Private hospitals managed by the pirates are blood sucking factory. They milk companies through insurance. These insurance companies are also in cahoot with these pirates. Why not? All these businesses are monitored and executed by pirates in government and GLCs. They disguise it as CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY. The victims are companies and ultimately the citizens who have to pay high prices for services and products.

INSIDIOUS !!!!

It's better to travel elsewhere for medical treatment. Sri Lanka or other Asian countries with the best medical care and experts.

Kpj cataract op (insurance) costs about RM6000 vs out of own pocket RM3500. You see the 71% increase in cost! Why the difference? The insurance companies know it

EPF is still continue accumulating KPJ. For coming Q result should be not good ( bad but not the worst) due to MCQ. It will recover very soon as the market is still there. So, will further buy in if price drop.

Inspite of improvements in its financial performance, the share price has been trending downwards
since about 6 years. From PE about 30 to now PE 18. This is probably the cheapest stock in the region based on PE.
One reason is because of too many shares in circulation. There was a 1 for 4 split 6yrs ago. Then there was subscription of rights issues and warrants and esos.It is difficult for share price to go up.
A new president and ceo just appointed starting work in July 1st.Hopefully kpj fortune would change for the better. This new ceo was formerlly from IHH

7 Jul2020 Hong Leong Investment Bank Research : Maintain OVERWEIGHT on the sector for its defensive qualities; growing healthcare expenditure, ageing population, and increased life expectancy. We like KPJ (BUY, TP: RM1.09) given its niche in domestic geographical hospital network spread that feeds patients into its urban specialist centres and in view of its lacking presence internationally thus lack off exposure to external volatility. Furthermore, we prefer KPJ vs. IHH as the former is less dependent on healthcare tourism (c.5% vs. IHH’s heavier weightage per country; Malaysia c.6%, Singapore c.25%, India c.8% and Acibadem c.16%).
