Petronas recently announced that the Jerun field in Block SK408, located approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Sarawak, has achieved its first gas production.

The Jerun field, discovered in 2015 by Sapura OMV, is capable of producing up to 550 million standard cubic feet per day, addressing the increasing global energy demand.

As for TotalEnergies’ acquisition of SapuraOMV, they have signed an agreement to acquire OMV’s 50% interest in SapuraOMV for $903 million, subject to customary closing adjustments. This deal includes the transfer of a $350 million loan granted by OMV to SapuraOMV. SapuraOMV’s main assets include a 40% operated interest in block SK408, where the development of the Jerun gas field is on track for startup in the second half of 2024.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the first half of 2024. This move strengthens TotalEnergies’ position in Malaysia and reinforces their partnership with Petronas, contributing to meeting the growing demand for gas in Asia.

UK supermajor Shell has hailed the Jerun gas field offshore Malaysia that came on stream earlier this week as a “highly attractive investment”.

Shell has a 30% interest in SapuraOMV Upstream’s Block SK 408 offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia, that hosts Jerun. The partners in 2021 took the final investment decision on Jerun, where the central production platform is designed to produce up to 550 million cubic feet per day of gas, with condensate output of 15,000 barrels per day of condensate.

Gas from Jerun is exported via a new 80-kilometre pipeline to the E11RB production hub for onward delivery to customers in Bintulu, Sarawak, including the Petronas LNG Complex.

“Jerun was a highly attractive investment for Shell, building on our interests in this important region off the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia, where Shell operates the Timi platform and has the Rosmari-Marjoram project under construction,” said Zoe Yujnovich, Shell’s integrated gas and upstream director.

The Jerun co-venturers are operator SapuraOMV Upstream with a 40% stake, Sarawak Shell and Malaysia’s national E&P player Petronas Carigali on 30%.


“Gas is an important fuel for Malaysia and the world, providing a secure form of energy for heating, cooling and power generation. We are delighted the venture has reached this milestone,” added Yujnovich.

Energy giant Shell on Friday said it remains committed to supporting Malaysia’s economic progress and energy transition efforts with “competitive and resilient investments”.

On Shell’s Capital Market Day in 2023, the company committed to deliver upstream and integrated gas projects coming on stream between 2023 to 2025, with total peak production of greater than 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

All these news is from WSJ. I am going in just because Sapura Energy got an extension for 12 months. Just my guessing, if this company will not be safe it won't get any extension. Another 6 months to the final date anything can happen. At RM 0.04 is worth the gamble.....lol...Hope i am right this time round....

You can never extract all the gas.
Gas estimate subject to change.
Secondary, tertiary recovery is very expensive.
The customer base within pipeline boundary may be limited.
FLNG may cost 10 bln USD, so the process machinery alone may take production over several years.

if PNB follow standard reducing of stake ( 40% to 30% )But want to recoup losses---they will use agent to
strip layer by layer of resistance but also sell down to agents collecting----now agent has alot bullets to
push up and down----my believe there is news but kept shut to allow agent to remove All resistance up
to 30cents or more-------------just my 2 cents prediction

I think there many people giving free "predictions" on when US economy is going to collapse. Generally I
look at China and Japan treasuries Holdings ( China as of today $ 800 Billion + Japan One Trillion ) Both
