Read their latest AR. Scroll all the way down to Properties section. Those numbers are NBV only. Current Market Value for those properties will be higher. Their Kota D’sara Distribution Center is big, their Rawang Distribution Centre is also considerable in size. This is one of the reasons EPF kept buying Mynews w/o even selling once since EPF started collecting (and EPF usually invest in a stock while also trade that stock daily/weekly). I follow EPF.
Mynews like brand name but afternoon open prices 0.67 start goes down to RM0.60 closing very scary. People wondering why open prices start dropping so much. Any problems from the company?
When the news came out, naturally ppl will start selling, profit-taking. Looking at the bright side, with EPF buying in, RM1.00 in the medium term is not impossible.
Since EPF bought a lot is an opportunity to push the share prices to built up a strong fundamental basis of the company share prices who know can partner with investor
After announcement dropped. No clear direction, a while partner japanese, a while partner with korean. now team up with korean to fight your own maru concept? aim to open 500 stores in 5 years for cu, what abt your own stores? with the current economic situation, how big is the mkt share to fit all these stores?
it is like Proton, they launch so many version of the same class - Gen2, Waja, Wira, and etc. All more or less the same engine and spec. Only create more inventories, more management, more problems.
MyNews should just convert all myNews to CU. Running both side by side is a suicidal move. Soon, you'll find the same product in myNews and CU, and one is cheaper and than the other. Eventually, both will offer the same product and services, which defeat the purpose.
So Maybank is optimistic about mynews opening up CU. In my opinion, opening up CU is good in terms of branding, mynews spend a lot on their stores rebrand, expansion, renovations and now another name coming in. Bad.. Also, opening up more other stores will canibalize its own mynews store. What they can do is convert their existing stores to CU brand, which will incur additional cost again... bad... so whats the good news?
I don’t think there will be any cannibalisation of Mynews stores. CU stores and Mynews stores will be symbiotic, each catering to different consumer markets. Main thing will be growth in revenue for MYNEWS as a PLC
How can it be symbiotic? If there is no cannibalization, then FamilyMart would not have caused so much damage to myNews.
Remember Apple in the 90s? They literally had 2 division making 2 similar products targeting the same group - mackintosh and apple II. In the end, both failed. Apple consolidated their products when Steve Jobs came back.
It is obvious myNews is going to FamilyMart and CU market. If you are a parent company, the last thing you want is to hold both McDonald and Burger King franchise. McDonald and Starbucks make sense, McDonald and Pizza Hut makes sense.
Just look at FamilyMart. It is one of the two largest convenient stores in Japan and is doing very very well. They started opening new outlets in Malaysia recently managed by QL Resources and since then business has been excellent. Meanwhile, CU is the largest convenient store in South Korea and its business model is very similar to FamilyMart. CU is going to start operation in Malaysia next year under MYNews and MYNews has an advantage as it already has many outlets established. Hence MYNews has good potentials in the medium to long terms given the 10 years agreement signed with CU (with option to extend another 10 years). Good stock for investment purpose, in my humble opinion.
Cu used to be family mart in Korea. They actually helped build up family mart to its current value. Just like chatime and tealive.. Epf will buy another 6 to 7%, things will change very fast for mynews. Very cheap now. If mynews had 2000 stores, they would be bought over by other groups too, including CP and other Asian groups. Very confident of the value,....
I guess not many ppl know about CU unless they have been to South Korea or following Korean movies. In time to come and when the new CU stores are opened early next year, more will know and realise how great is CU. By then it will be too late to buy MYnews shares.

Yeah. Institutional funds’ questions to PLCs are usually entertained/answered. And so they decide to invest. Us retailers/minority shareholders can ask PLCs questions but not entertained hahaha. It’s good news
There will be more funds buying into Mynews. In q1 there shld be a further strategy on the in store offerings to improve profitability. Mynews will be stronger than family mart in 6 to 8 mths. 7-11 has closed some stores. I hope mynews keeps expanding and adding more stores. One strategy is to switch stores which needs a refresh offerings and which have been beaten down by family mart eating into they sales.
More funds will buy in and collect for long term. CU would also benefit as they want to qualify to for the halal market in other countries they expand into and could use mynews food processing ctr for the frozen microwavable ready to eat meals, just like CP 7-11 in Thailand
I guess Familymart has limited outlet in Malaysia and it takes time and money to set up new outlets. Whereas CU can just piggy back on MyNews vast number of outlets in Malaysia. Maybe just remodel a bit and can run already. So can expect the opening of CU outlets in Malaysia very fast and contribute to MYNews revenues and profit.
