obviously overvalued now. Auto loan memo for b40 until next year, and opr still stay at 1.5, how Maybank gonna earn a lot? Anyhow if you can hold for 3-5 years, then this stock is still a good choice. But now many other stocks can do much more better than this one, not interested in this bank until OPR back to 2 above.

sad. Now so many small funds come into market and then goreng everything. Glove they goreng, bank goreng, new listing stock goreng and peny stock goreng. Most of the stock become overvalued. Marketplace become more and more risky. Only with vacine hopes the price already back to pre covid level. In 2019, the profit is so beautiful and the price is rm8.30-8.50. Now OPR 1.5 and covid 19 risk is still there but the price already go back to pre covid level.

While asset quality has been a concern to the banks given the strong economic headwinds, nonetheless half of the banks have achieved better sequential performance. Some see this as a saving grace that the country’s banking system is resilient, a critical factor that is needed for the domestic economy to bounce back.
Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) was the only lender that saw its net profit double or up 107.32% q-o-q in net profit for 3Q20. The banking group also declared an interim dividend of 13.5 sen per share during the quarter.
Other than Maybank, BIMB was the only other bank that declared a dividend of 12.6 sen per share in the quarter.
However, on a y-o-y basis, it is down 2.32% — still considered a commendable achievement.
RHB Bank Bhd (+55.3% q-o-q), Public Bank Bhd (+39.03% q-o-q) and Hong Leong Bank Bhd (+28.01% q-o-q) achieved solid double-digit growth for 3Q20 as most of them made large loan loss provisions in the preceding quarter in preparation to withstand the headwinds.
Among others, AMMB Holdings Bhd saw the biggest drop by 35.01% q-o-q in 3Q20, followed by CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (-29.82% q-o-q), Affin Bank Bhd (-27.72% q-o-q), BIMB Holdings Bhd (-11.25% q-o-q) and Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd (-0.35% q-o-q).

Fitch downgrade affects the confidence of foreign investment in general. Banks with strong fundamentals will not be affected much. Especially banks with low NPLs will be shielded.

hi Jeff, i read and pls correct me if I am wrong, if I don’t do anything i shall receive the cash dividend right? I only holds 3,500 shares, which only will give me RM472.50, and if i subscribe, i get odd lot of 61.5 or 62 shares (472.5/7680 of the fixed price of DRP?)

PBB and HLB are the premium banks in Malaysia. Top in risk management. Lowest in NPLs. Maybank is not too far behind, not a big issue LOL

Just to clarify since I had participated from the 1st DRP back in 2010. If you wish to receive cash dividend, ignore the form sent to you.

If the price a day prior to X date is 8.00, then the next day shall be 8.00 minus 13.5 sen, 7.86.

For those participating do not forget to sign and affix a RM10 stem hasil on the form.

i know it will be diluted but for 3,500 shares, i think the difference is only RM30 or less... jus don’t want to hold the odd shares
Another perspective is that can try to fill the form (is it digitally sent or hard copy?, can’t remember the last DRP which i was offered too), and enjoy the odd lot and then in the future we will have DRP again and the odd lots get more and more

Yes, you shall receive 61 shares if you subscribe to the DRP. If you intend to be a long time investor, then its good to accumulate. If you intend to sell within the next 3 months, then better not as the odd lots will cause you headaches.

By the way final dividend will be about 20 sen paid in Apr or May and another DRP will be forthcoming.

Fitch downgrades Malaysia’s sovereign rating to BBB+, the first downgrade since Asian Financial Crisis
Wong Ee Lin/ theedgemarkets.com

December 04, 2020
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): Fitch Ratings has downgraded Malaysia's long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating (IDR) to 'BBB+' from 'A-', with a stable outlook. The downgrade marks the ratings agency's first for the country since the 1997/98 Asian Financial Crisis.

The depth and duration of the Covid-19 crisis have weakened several of Malaysia's key credit metrics, said Fitch Ratings in a statement today.

The pandemic's impact on the Malaysian economy has been substantial and has added to the country's fiscal burden, which was already high, relative to peers going into the health crisis, Fitch said.

Ringgit to strengthen to 3.80-3.90 against US dollar in 2021 — Rakuten Trade

theedgemarkets.com

December 07, 2020 12:16 pm +08

-A+A
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 7): Rakuten Trade Research foresees the ringgit (MYR) to strengthen to the range of 3.80 to 3.90 against the US dollar (USD) in 2021 as it expects Chinese yuan (renminbi or RMB) sentiment to improve against the greenback's.

The research house’s head of research Kenny Yee said in a briefing he envisages the new US administration to be less volatile next year, hence expecting regional currencies to strengthen against the US dollar.

“We expect China to lead Asia as the new US administration is seen as a better business partner than Trump’s.

“As the MYR/USD movement is the closest with RMB/USD, we foresee the MYR to strengthen against the USD to possibly the 3.80/90 levels in 2021,” he said.

Sometimes forgetting about a stock & remembering many months later is the most PROFITABLE technique to earn from the schizophrenic market...unlike some people I know who monitor every tick & complain why it didn't move the way the expect...as though they could make the market do what they want!

The one who is still strong a year from now when COVID-19 glove boom is over and all the suppliers including the new suppliers’ factories are all are fighting each other for markets for their gloves when their gloves are no longer required in such numbers. We have seen this before in Malaysia, in the late 80s at the onset of AIDS, gloves were in hot demand, buyers qued up knocking down doors for supply. Then as more and more factories came on line and supply grew to overtake need .... the price of gloves rapidly plummeted from US$100 per 1000 pcs FOB, to US16.00 per 1000 pcs CIF, and still couldn’t sell! Glove factories closed shop all over Malaysia. many millions of gloves wjent to the rubbish dump. Rahmat_Daud086 if you were not around then, then ask your Dad.
