The US dollar could collapse by the end of 2021 and the economy can expect a more than 50% chance of a double-dip recession, the economist Stephen Roach told CNBC on Wednesday.
The US has seen economic output rise briefly and then fall in eight of the past 11 business-cycle recoveries, Roach said.
Grim second-quarter data cannot be dismissed, he said, pointing out that "the current-account deficit in the United States, which is the broadest measure of our international imbalance with the rest of the world, suffered a record deterioration."
Roach last predicted a crash in the dollar index in June, when it was trading at about 96. He said at the time that it would collapse 35% against other major currencies within the next year or two.

overall many good news to bank these few weeks. No more loan memorandum, no more political issues, and today GDP is much better than expectations.

The U.S. recorded more than 150,000 new Covid cases on Thursday for the first time since the pandemic took hold in the country roughly nine months ago. The seven-day average of daily new infections now stands at 131,445 — 32% higher than this time last week — according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins data. State and local leaders are again imposing tough restrictions in an effort to tamp down spread ahead of the colder holiday season.

Not out of woods yet. I believe will retrace to 7.5 level pending qr result by end of the month. Noting no extension of monatorium meaning NPL will be high by next 3 months.

Is Maybank is going to declare dividend when they announce the coming qtr results? Why share price continue going up ?

DChosen2

457 posts

Posted by DChosen2 > 2020-11-14 14:58 | Report Abuse

Nope .. but since no extension of monatorium, the shareholders r expecting to have dividend payout on March 2021. Thats y the share price is going up. But little they know or they try their luck if no extension of.monatorium meaning NPL figures will be released in the 4th qr. I expect volitality till then.

Maybank CFO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias confirmed Maybank’s policy is to pay out 40% to 60% of net. The first dividend that due in Sept was deferred this year. It was 25c in 2019. The profit for the dividend period deferred was reduced from 3.75bil to 2.99bil which equates to profit reduction of 21%. From this I calculate that the deferred September 2020 dividend should have worked out at around 20c a share. As this was deferred, I expect it will be added to the dividend to be announced in March 2021. This year 2020 the March dividend was 0.39 a share.
Assuming that for the current period the drop in Maybank’s profits is somewhat less than the disastrous 1st period reduction of 21%, I expect a reduction of around 15%. Thus, the div April 2021 should be in the order of 33 cents a share to which we add the deferred September dividend of an estimated 20 cents for what is now a full year dividend total of 53 cents. The dividend announcement is due 27th March for payment 10th April.

its okay, lets say if buy at rm8 and the total dividend paid for this financial year is only 40 sen per share, it still provide dividend yield of 04/8 x 100 = 5%, which is much more higher than fix deposit of around 2% per year now.

USD sliding madly agst RM...this tells me foreign funds are buying again BIG after selling continuously from 2014 - 2019. One wave of foreign $ can push Maybank to 8.50-9.00...easily!

I have forgotten what is my average price for Maybank. Up or down, will not sell. Take DRP instead of cash whenever is offered.

The important thing is that I bought much lower than my last round, buying @ 7.5-7.6 in '16 & selling for the mid-to high 9s in 2017.

a bit overvalued now, as rm8 is the price of maybank before covid 19 and after ph become government, and Msia has not recover from covid 19 yet.

Its price was RM8.75 in Jan 2020 and almost Rm10 in late 2019. Best dividend paying bank...better hold longer term for dividend and capital appreciation.

The coming dividend will be next yr march/april. I do believe the price will retrace back to 7.5 range till Feb next yr because NPL figures will be out in 4rd qr.

Still early days...hold on to all your shares. I sold my last shares @ 9.70 in Oct 2017 & regretted for months because it went all the way to 11.00 within just a few months!
