Think so optimistic, Malaysia is not that good. Ever since PH took over from BN, the deterioration gone worse. Now PN shitstorm isn't over and getting serious. Foreign fund are taking out from bursa to invest in their own meme stocks. Great nation like Japan, hard working productive ppl, still barely climbing out from 80s big crash. I got my 5 figures salary job to have no financial stress life. Whatever I had invested, I just expect it to beat the fixed deposit rate / inflation.
That remind me, my daily job is a lot more important than stock investing. The dividend I just gonna spend on prostitute because lock down, many prostitute jobless

CSLee: i am just normal only, others here are doing very much better but they keep quiet and I hope they share their wisdom, so we can learn from the sifus here.

And one more thing, just investing in msia is NOT good enough, and I am slowly venturing outside of this country. Many here has already ventured out to Singapore and US markets. And with the latest development , I will try to try small small direct invest in overseas marts. I had a friend who started overseas mart etc and he is has mads lots of money. So hope u guys venture out and start slowly and carefully branch overseas cos i feel msia mart is too inefficient but my keyword is safety and stability and sustainability will be my guide.

PS:I am on robo adviser and the returns are not too braggable and fluctuates within a range which is not to my liking. I will soon liquidate it and invest direct BUT these seems to be witholding taxes and stuff which needs to be studied first.

Do share ur success.

Thanks in advance.

USA shares.

I have a few shares in the US, I sold 75% of them today (losing quite a few % over yesterday) and just kept my gold shares - which may not have been the correct decision.

Anyway, what I really wanted to point out is (in US$):

Gross dividend: 90.00
Tax: 22.51
Net dividend: 67.49
Foreign agent fee: 0.74
Nominee fee: 1.34
Net payable: 65.41

There is also the issue of the US markets opening at 21:30 in the summer and 22:30 in the winter. Not really helping to buy/sell at the best price.

if 10k u lose 3 k.. and capital appriaciation is not guranteed to offset, as bob has indicated that some of his tickets are not in the green. That also with the bull run, imagine if we were in a bear market ( very possible the moment changes fed policy)

Learning from yesterdays's purchases, I learned NOT to trust major sellers selling off on fears, IF I think the price is right, just buy, cant go wrong much. And do not i have stated i would buy if around RM8 when the price was at 8.20++. SO it was a planned top up. ( Later if price goes below 7.80, dont blame me, but i will top up a bit more then, AND in AUG get the 20+ sen dividend.)

I do not see what that would change from a tax point of view. I believe the only way to avoid US tax is if you live in a country with a dual tax agreement with them - you will still end up paying tax somewhere.

One interesting point on my gold shares, last month I received two dividends, the one I listed above and, from the same company a "Return of capital" dividend of USD 140.51 which was US tax free only Foreign Agent Fee of $1.45 and Nominee Fee of $1.34 deducted. I wasn't expecting this but a pleasant surprise.

PS, I may have sold 60% of my US stocks too early.

Well done, I was very tempted but expected the price to go down again today but, as usual, I was wrong (at least so far). My advice is to do the opposite of what I do. My average is 8.17 up from below 8.00 when I increased my holding last month by a factor of 5 (still a modest number).

Barrick Gold. https://www.marketbeat.com/stocks/NYSE/GOLD/dividend/

I bought gold and silver shares in a few different companies years ago - and forgot about them when gold tanked and I stopped messing with the stockmarket. Last year I found them again to find they had doubled in value, but nowhere near the returns had I invested in S&P 500 ETF.

When Buffet bought into Barrick, I sold my previous gold shares and also bought Barrick as the dividend is better.

no matter what shares u own, like to share this for perspective;

If u own 1000 shares very 1 sen u gain RM10

If u own 10,000 shares very 1 sen u gain RM100

If u own 100,000 shares very 1 sen u gain RM1000

If u own 1.000,000 mil shares, every 1 sen gain....u probably gain RM0,

because u are probably a fund manager and the profit doesnt belong to u and wont be credited into ur personal account like ours do!!!

LOL

JJFinn Hello everyone, new in here. people tell me MBB is good dividend stock. Learn quite a bit from this forum in MBB.

Maybank is one of the best on Bursa.

Do a bit of research comparing different companies dividend and share price. Make sure the dividend is consistent and preferably going up.

Create a spreadsheet and calculate how many dividend cents you get per ringgit invested. I calculate the average and median dividends over, say, 5 years to give an idea of what you may get - those with more brains may do better statistical analysis.

Put your results in a table and sort on the dividend cents per ringgit. Obviously you may have to consider downturns, etc. such as Ambank's 1MDB fiasco (which really annoys me).

I also run a "prediction" over 5-10 years to see what the benefits of dividend reinvestment achieves - very simple as you have to make assumptions on share price and dividend. One thing that stands out in this is that inflation of the share price is very detrimental to the returns unless dividend goes up accordingly.

You will see the lower you can average your share buying price the better the %age dividend returns.

The advantage of Maybank is it is 'blue chip' and long term you may get the benefit of a share price increase.

As everyone says, do your own research and this is not a buy or sell call.
