To be fair to Malaysians. This round should not have additional interest.

The moment you borrowed money from bank there are risks involved. This pandemic is not cause be banks. The government should provide financial aids & not bank. Business is Business

Is anyone reading the tea-leaves? Will the price go down further?

Posted by Stock beginner > 2021-06-29 09:42 | Report Abuse

hate to say this, for those who wish to wipe off interest for 6 month. What do you think if it also mean your FD interest and Unit Trust profit also get wipe off? Banker is just middle man, it have to pay interest to FD holder and other loan they took. Will they get waive as well?

HLBank Research Highlights

A: Tue, 29 Jun 2021, 10:10 AM

Banks have agreed to provide 6-mth loan moratorium to all consumer & micro SME borrowers. However, it will be on an opt-in model, unlike the 1st automatic loan deferment. Hence, we believe there is unlikely to have significant impact to banks and in any case, day 1 modification loss is a non-cash accounting entry & is gradually reversible in the future. Thus, we are treating it as an exceptional item. Overall, we expect negligible price reaction on the above development and price weakness is an opportunity to accumulate.

Maintain OVERWEIGHT; BUY calls include: Maybank, Public, RHB, BIMB & Affin.

HLIB’s VIEW
Unlikely to have significant impact to banks, considering this is an opt-in model, which may deter non-affected borrowers to exploit this relief vs the 1st automatic loan moratorium. In our view, troubled borrowers would remain largely similar to before and thus, we do not expect to see a meaningful uptick in targeted assistance as a % of outstanding loan exposure. From our channel checks, the level of targeted repayment assistance take-up rate has stabilized over the past 1 quarter and is currently beneath 15%, better vs banks’ initial average guidance of 15-20%

In any case, price weakness is an opportunity to accumulate.
we like Maybank (TP: RM9.40) for its strong dividend yield offering, and Public Bank (TP: RM4.50) for its defensive qualities, over CIMB (TP: RM4.60). For mid -sized banks, RHB (TP: RM6.85) is favoured more than AMMB (TP: RM2.85

https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kenangaresearch/2021-06-29-story-h1567089109-Banking_Moratorium_Returns.jsp

For those who have to stay invested, we recommend accumulating MAYBANK (OP; TP: RM10.65) as its strong dividend yield potential (7-8%) will continue to provide cushion to investors seeking a long-term position. Additionally, despite being the leader in loans market share, it commands a fair GIL ratio of c.2% (within industry average). To us, this indicates that its books are well guarded with tight asset quality checks.

PETALING JAYA: The latest loan moratorium under the RM150bil Pemulih package will not be interest free, but it would help borrowers by deferring the repayment to a later date.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said on Tuesday the banks will, however, waive the compounded interest or the interest charged on interest accrued during the six-month moratorium period, as well as any penalty charges.

The method of repayment, including on interest charges, is “between the borrowers and the banks”.

“You will have to discuss this with your respective banks.

“I don’t know the answer, but the interest charges will differ from bank to bank and from product to product.

Just like the last year apr - Sept 2020 monotorium, End of the day, we still need to pay the interest. Gov won't absord it...

I just don't know why the gov said the gov had to pay the losses despite the rakyat need to pay back the interest to the bank after the monotorium is offered.

Yup no extra charges for late payment for next 6 months. End of the day borrowers have to settle the loan and included all interests involved.

How nice if politicians running the banks, then they may give loans for free, lol. Ringgit can surge even higher from those day around $2.50 to now $4.20 and future even higher despite ongoing trade surplus. Higher the better.
