If you are looking for performance among the Bursa banks, then of course you would chose PBB as it had the better ROE trends. You can see from the chart that Affin has the worse ROE trend.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W7Lnw_hT0w

But if you are looking to make money, shouldn’t the focus be on companies trading at a discount to its value with some catalyst? The asset value or book value of banks is a good indication of their business value as most of the assets are marked to market prices. So PBV can give a picture of whether a bank is over or underpriced.
In this context, PBB has a PBV greater than 1 whereas Affin is trading below its book value. Affin has been in the news lately about the Sarawak Stateg government planning to increase its stake in the bank. This can be catalyst for re-rating if the purchase goes through.

https://i.postimg.cc/L5VcCMRP/PBB-vs-Affin.png
On the other hand, PBB no longer has its founder Chairman. Will its historical performance that is probably due to its corporate culture be sustained? More importantly, where is the catalyst for re-rating?

If you want to invest PBB, you must study the differences btw PBB and MBB and/or CIMB.

PBB core business are Deposit Taking and Loan business. PBB does have corporate banking division and Investment Bank division but that's not thier target. For other income section, they focus on Unit trust business and bancassurance.

PBB's target groups are individuals and SMEs.

Another difference is PBB DOESN'T have Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia market.

For management, PBB still one of the best team compare to other local established bank. Most of them are retirees from BNM. PBB's always has Lowest NPL, CIR and High ROE.

We understand your point of view Mr Fish! But you must understand that the investors want results and good returns just the other banks around and this is not happening currently. We don’t care which ever way you run your business. The problem is they are in a comfort zone and are not interested in expanding their services like venturing internationally. As you said they are probably retirees fr other organisations and are probably senile, with no initiative on mind. Very soon they will be left further behind. GERIATRIC BANKING SERVICES.😭😭😭

Unless something drastic is done, its downhill all the way.

Likely to be swallowed up by CIMB

Mr Diamond.
Banking industries is a highly regulated sector. They can't expand without permission from MOF, BNM and related authorities.

Recently they are expanding in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Those old folks don't have nice slogan like T18 / Forward 23+ but Revenue and profit keep increasing.

For FY 2023, PBB's Net Profit will break new record.

Numbers told everything. They are old, slow but never stop moving forward.

Again now PBB has 19.5 billion shares. Very diluted....
Price adjustment with the huge number of shares...
If you keep all bonus shares and previous shares, you get same amount of dividends on the number of shares you have.
It will be uphill for PBB to climb higher

All said and done, PBB still has a potential so don’t give it up completely. Now let’s see our old man team working out on its dividend coming up soon. If they fail their investors this time than I’m sure they’ll be in a big MESS.😭😭😭✌️

Posted by BlackDiamond > 2024-02-15 12:43 | Report Abuse

PBB is the 2nd largest bank in Malaysia, after Maybank. We must ask them why isn’t their dividend coinciding with its position? Why are other lesser performing banks are giving a better payout? Don’t tell because they are senile?😄😄😄😄😄😂😂😂

Since bonus issue making it 19.5 bn shares, the perception of this bank has gone downhill..
Anyway, hopefully pbb management may have something on its sleeves. Don't bet on this too much !!
They may be conserving capital

If big funds are riding PBB price then go along with them why complain? With so many shares issued, only big funds can absorb and keep prices stable.
BlackDiamond

Have you all studied the game yet! Big funds are selling at 4.42 and than pushing it down to 3.00 and buying it back and pushing it back to 4.42 and repeating it! Beware buyers! Don’t get cheated! With the way things are moving l don’t expect a good bonus. 😭😭😭😭😭

Indo-China securities trading business expansion. Also, there are a sizeable group of Malaysian businesses in China where they are likely to connect with PBB.
“As such, the proposed acquisition presents an opportunity for PBVN to expand its financial services offerings in Vietnam with the inclusion of securities trading services.

“Upon completion of the proposed acquisition, PBVN intends to leverage on its existing client base to grow the securities trading business,” it said.

The bank noted that the proposed acquisition is also expected to further strengthen the presence of the group in Vietnam as well as provide synergy to its Indo-China operations.

“PBB Group has an existing securities trading arm in Cambodia, namely Campu Securities Plc, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cambodian Public Bank Plc, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PBB.

PBB's QR confirmed will be announced on 27th?

Posted by BlackDiamond > 2024-02-22 10:55 | Report Abuse

For those interested better buy now before the price increases after the announcement of the dividend. It was 3.9 three weeks back and now it’s 4.51. At this rate seeing 5.00 will be no problem but there may be a little adjustment after the payout of the dividend. Rush and don’t miss this opportunity. Good Luck!🟢✔️

2014 - 2023 (10 years)

Its revenues, PBT and EPS grew consistently consistently but at a very slow rate.

PBTMs were maintained around 34.4%. Its PBT in 2022 and 2023 grew faster due to higher PBT margins in these years.

ROEs averaged 14.3% over the last 10 years. The 10 year trend showed a downward slope and its latest ROE in 2023 was 12.2%.

Its DPO ratio was 47.9%.

It retained RM 1.53 per share of its earnings (for maintainance or for future growth) and it increased its EPS by 10.59 sen over the 10 years, giving a return on retained earnings RORE of 6.9%.

Its share price in 2013 was RM 3.44 per share and in 2022 was RM 4.15, a positive change of RM 0.71 per share.

Quoting Warren Buffett, for every $1 retained by the company, this should be reflected in its share price. In the case for PBBank, it retained RM 1.53 over the 10 years and its share price had risen RM 0.71 per share.

For those who bought this share in 2013 at RM 3.44 per share, they would have gained RM 0.71 per share in capital appreciation and received total dividends of RM 1.28: a 58% gain over 10 years ( approximately CAGR of 4.68%).

Retaining about 52.1% of its earnings and having a ROE of 12.2% are still very encouraging for the owners of this stock.

At P/BV of 1.6, it is priced at a premium to most banking stocks. With its ROE trending downwards, we can expect its P/BV to remain at present level or to decline further but slightly.

😀
