i think ksl wanna keep their cash to develop ksl city mall 2 at klang instead of funding outside. according to the source, the project was completed 20% and notice that the borrowing is in the trend of downward every quarter.

For shareholders, the returns of their investments are the dividends received and the increase in share prices. For KSL case, no dividends received and the share price dropped to the lowest in the last 5 years. All the minority shareholders are in fact losing money.

They propose to buy more land in Tebrau.
Why do so when they can't pay any dividend, while the property market is slow?

I have a small position at 1.25. I doubled up at 1.02.

Posted by RVI123 > Mar 5, 2018 03:02 PM | Report Abuse

@Jon Choivo, how long have you been invested in KSL? I believe it is quite recent. I am pity for those who have invested 3 years and longer. The company is making a lot of profits but the minority investors are not enjoying the benefits. The investors may probably want to divest due to whatever reasons but find that they are making losses after investing into KSL for a long time.

Logically, i would prefer buybacks to div any day, less tax. But, i cannot deny the pleasure of having money come in. But it makes zero difference to me, since all dividend i receive goes back in the fund.

The only point i would argue is that the directors should accelerate the buybacks.

Salary is a touch high. But its not too bad. 10mil each is not that bad.

Top GLove, Supermax etc also pay 8-15 mil to their big bosses. And they earn less than KSL.

"If one does not have the patience, it would be best if you left the market, or try your hand at trading. Who knows, you may very well be the 10% who make money".

OK Jon Choivo. You have your strategy, others have theirs. No need to lecture.

China just slapped a 5.5 billion yuan fine for stock market manipulation: https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/banking-finance/china-imposes-55b-yuan-fine-for-manipulation

There is a gold-mine for the Securities Commission if they investigate KSL, especially the Dec 2014 double sell-downs. Also the present tamping down of KSLs share price. The buy/sell queues show signs of deliberate manipulation!

I have invested several years here. Lost half of the money. All saving gone. Cursed are the people who lead the company. Not honor the promise to pay out dividends.

KSL just spent RM311M buying land. They have cash. They just don't pay dividends. In the meantime, the share price is being depressed downwards to force weaker holders to divest. Just look at the sell queue over the past weeks - clear signs of manipulation. The SC should investigate!

@spider68. Yeah, I was also wrong-footed. The Chairman did say that the policy is not legally binding, but there was no indication that he did not intend to keep the policy. He just did not honour the promise and gave no indication that the promise is discarded. In the meantime, the directors are paid more than RM30M per year.

More tamping down of the share price today.

The closing price is the lowest for the last 4 years or so. And this for a company making profit by the hundreds of millions and just shelled out RM311M for over 200 cares of prime land in prime locations.

The only explanation is that the price deliberately tamped down for the majors to privatise. Unless someone has a better explanation.

Basically the cash in hand of RM254mil (as at 31/12/17) has been used up for the land purchase. No more money for dividends payment. However, the directors' remunerations and bonuses are not affected.

For the last 12 months, directors, Share Buy Back and Tabung Haji have been buying KSL shares aggressively. When one bought, the other two would temporary stop. They did not compete with each other to buy. Look like it was coordinated.

Actually Share Buyback is another way of rewarding Shareholders...Instead of paying you dividend which is subject to income tax, A share buyback is better option...So don curse the KSL they might push up the price in the future, surely not now when they wanna accumulate at cheap price...

Nemesis, I agree that share buy back does have some advantages compare to dividend, but the buy back is peanut and far from sustaining the share price. Furthermore, I see no reason to spend so much money when they tell investors they can't pay dividend as Ksl2 needs a lot of capital. Why buy land when the market is so slow, and everyone knows that their inventory is so high and can't sell?

If you think it is “questionable practices" their Charter says

MSWG's objectives are set out in a Charter under its Memorandum and Articles of Association. These objectives are as follows:

To become the Forum on minority shareholders' experiences.

To become the Think-Tank and Resource Centre for minority interest and corporate governance matters in Malaysia.

To develop and disseminate the educational aspects of corporate governance.

"To become the platform to initiate collective shareholder activism on questionable practices by management of public listed companies."

To influence the decision making process in public listed companies as the leader for minority shareholders’ legitimate rights and interests.

To monitor for breaches and non-compliance in corporate governance practices by public listed companies.

To initiate where appropriate, reports to regulatory authorities and transforming MSWG into an effective deterrent of such events or activities that can be against the interest of the minority shareholders.

I suspects those bangsats actually have inside info from remisiers as well as management as to who are the minors and who is on borrowed money. Their selling is coordinated and calibrated. So please change remisiers and brokers if you even suspect smoke. I have changed mine!

As for the management insiders, sooner rather than later they will meet their just desserts under the law!
