Commentary Based on Daily Chart ( 18 Mar 2016 )
An important development took place on 18 March 2016 where the price of IHH broke the resistance of 6.52. This breakout was accompanied by a higher than average traded volume which shows the enthusiasm of the traders to push the price higher and past this resistance hence giving a higher probability of a successful breakout.

In China, private hospitals have low social recognition and a limited number of outpatients unlike those here and in the western world. Even though the China market is vast, so are its challenges.90% of China's healthcare is provided by state hospitals. To reap the benefits there, it would take a long time and a paradigm shift in the population before it can happen.

We are very sure that IHH would have done their homeworks before deciding to open the hospital in Shanghai. I understand that public hospitals in China could not cope with the high demands of the Chinese population and thus foreign health care companies are welcome to open hospital there. By the way it is not easy to obtain the necessary approvals and the vetting by the authorities are very stringent. In any event big city like Shanghai has a large percentage of foreign employees and they will most likely be potential customers of the hospital. We are very excited and positive with this investment in China. Once the venture is successful we will not be surprised that the company will open more hospitals in other Chinese cities. Cheers.

I wonder why people buy this share. Low ROE, kiamsiap on dividends, PE>50. Maybe because it's on an uptrend?

IHH Healthcare to divest 30% stake in China unit for RM689.6m
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): IHH Healthcare Bhd, the world's second largest private healthcare group by market capitalisation, is divesting a 29.9% equity stake in PCH Holding Pte Ltd – the holding entity for the group's China portfolio of primary care clinics and greenfield hospital projects – to China's Taikang Insurance Group Inc for RMB1.1 billion (RM689.6 million) cash.

"The group has operated in its key growth market of China for more than a decade and currently has a network of primary care clinics and hospital projects across China. IHH and Taikang Insurance Group will be jointly funding future projects in proportion to their shareholding," said IHH.

It added that the strategic partnership will allow PCH to leverage on the complementary strengths of both parties, realising business and healthcare operational synergies, to drive further growth in China. Potential areas of collaboration include referrals and coverage at PCH’s primary care clinics and hospitals for Taikang Insurance Group’s clients.

"This partnership builds on our shared belief in the long-term growth prospects and demand for private healthcare in the country (China),” he added.

IHH said the proposed transaction will not have any effect on its issued and paid-up share capital and substantial shareholders’ shareholdings. "There will not be any material effect on the earnings, net assets or gearing of IHH for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2016."

http://www.theedgemarkets.com/my/article/ppb-mudajaya-puc-founder-scomi-engineering-ihh-sumatec-hock-seng-lee-nexgram-and-tiger

IHH Healthcare Bhd has disposed of a 6.07% stake in India’s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, reducing its shareholding in the Chennai-based hospital chain to 4.78%.

IHH said it stands to gain RM312 million from the disposal of the 8.4 million Apollo shares for 10.7 billion rupees (RM710.9 million) and will use the proceeds for its working capital needs.

There were multiple purchasers, almost all of which were institutional shareholders, IHH said. The disposal is part of its ongoing review of its investment portfolio to maximise return to its stakeholders.

IHH first qtr profit all wiped out by losses incurred in Turkey. Turkish Lira is poised to drop further agst USD, EUR, MYR .... Revenue from its Turkey operations is in Lira while its loans are in USD & EUR. Thus this problem is here to stay. (The Edge weekly's IHH article answers a lot of questions.)
