HSBC to close 13 branches by year-end, remains committed to M'sia

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2021/06/15/hsbc-rema...

First, Citibank want to close certain consumer services.
Second, now HSBC wants to close 13 branches by 31 Dec
What's going on ?

Banking sector to face challenges as moratorium is putting stress & pressure on profit margins leading to lower profits. Consequently, lower profits means lower dividends and share prices of banks going forward.

Citibank & HSBC are big global giants in the banking & financial services industries.
They must know something before they arrive at these similar decisions.

Other dynamic companies & industries among the 1,000+ Public-listed companies in Bursa to choose fr to invest in that offer a greater growth path & profit.

China contributed 70% of HSBC earnings. They are concentrating on china market now. China is opening up it financial market for foreign competitors. Unlike Malaysia where too many red tapes for foreign investments

"HSBC is now focusing in investing to transform for the future of banking via digital enablement and as part of this transformation, 13 of our bank branches will be closed on Dec 31, 2021," it said.

A much lower cost option than keeping branches open which mostly serves us better. However, there are times you do need to talk to a human face to face and not some automated query response that is little use.

Young investors just buy & hold for long-term. Maybank offer potential wealth gains for your retirement. Uncle total holding already reach 164,400 units. Just keep applying for future dividend reinvestment plan. Stock market returns are much better than property investment.

There is still a possibility of 1 last moratorium or OPR cut due to the severity of financial hardships faced by many individuals, families and companies. If this happens, profit margin compression occurs followed by declining dividends and bank share prices for a while. Perhaps, this is one of the possible reasons & factors for foreign banks to scale down its operations here.

When all is well, CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd expects investors to shift their portfolios in favour of recovery stocks (its key big-cap recovery picks are Maybank, Genting and Malaysia Airports) in the period leading to phase three of the recovery and Budget 2022.

We are not govern by US Fed. But maybe affected by sentiments. Normally financial institutions share price will go up but rest go down. Short term, so catch the opportunity :p

When the USA inflation rises, they raise the interest rate. The price of shares in the USA then drop (maybe because people borrow to buy shares?) which tends to have a knock on effect around the world.

When Fed raise interest rates, stock markets tend to fall bcuz:
1) companies need to pay more interest for loan whcih eat into profit.
2) higher discount rate will be used to calculate stock valuation.
3) people who borrow to buy stocks need to pay more interest
